There’s a quartet of tips for Andrew Mount on Thursday 27th November, as he heads to Lingfield and Newcastle for his best bets of the day.

1.15 Lingfield – HIGHWAY HERO (1pt win – 9/1 bet365, 8/1 888sport, 15/2 William Hill, 7/1 generally)
Gary Moore has a cracking record in Lingfield handicap chases with runners that were making their debut over fences, scoring with six of the 23 qualifiers for a profit of £41.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. Kalif D’Airy (SP 13-2) was a winner on this angle on November 11th and I want to take a chance on his HIGHWAY HERO in this 2m4f contest for the same reason. The seven-year-old has spent most of his career running in point-to-points (two wins from 21 starts) and could benefit from the switch to regulation fences for the first time. He hasn’t shown much in four runs for the Moores but went off relatively short in the betting (13-2) when fifth in a novices’ hurdle on his stable debut in June and has been ridden by a very inexperienced amateur (Elizabeth Feakes) when well beaten in handicap hurdles the last twice. Caoilin Quinn is back on board today and he’s worth a bet despite the presence of odds-on stablemate RIP WHEELER, successful at Huntingdon last time.
4.05 Newcastle – LOQUELLA (1pt win – 11/4 generally)
Charlie Johnston has a fine record with his juvenile fillies on their racecourse debuts, especially on the all-weather. He’s scored with ten of the 30 qualifiers for a profit of £87.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. LOQUELLA, a 48,000gns yearling, is a half-sister to Greatest Time and Forever Forward who both went close on their racecourse debuts, finishing second by half a length when 20-1 at Newmarket and second by a neck at Sandown respectively (11-2). Her yard has only had one No Nay Never filly debut on the all-weather previously – Never Fear – and she won at 12-1 on Tapeta at Wolverhampton.
4.40 Newcastle – MYTHICAL BAY (0.5pt e/w – 15/2 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 888sport, 7/1 generally)
We had a couple of profitable bets on the Andrew Balding second time out two-year-olds angle yesterday, with the first of them – Breathe Easy (16-1 advised) – running third at 25-1 in the 12.30 at Southwell and the other – Itica (16-1 advised) – getting smashed into 15-8 favouritism before finishing second (traded at 1.24 in running on Betfair). MYTHICAL BAY, a 5-1 fourth of seven at Bath on last month’s debut, can be expected to improve and is also worth a small each-way bet.
6.45 Newcastle – SECRET GUEST (1pt win – 9/2 bet365, 7/2 William Hill, 888sport)
SECRET GUEST has failed to score from 14 attempts when rested for 29 days or longer including his racecourse debut) -which excuses his Southwell sixth on his penultimate start, – and he returned to form with a 10-1 third to Germanic in a hot 6f Class 3 course and distance handicap on November 17th after a 17-day break. Bryan Smart’s five-year-old has a five from 22 record when returned to the track within four weeks of his latest outing (+£3.83 to a £1 level stake at SP), improving to five from nine (+£16.83) in Class 4 or lower company. He drops to this level for the first time since his 7-1 victory at Thirsk in May and runs off a 1lb lower mark tonight.
