3.40 Ffos Las – MOON CHIME (0.5pt e/w – 18/1 generally)
MOON CHIME needs to race left-handed, as he tends to hang to his right (or jump out to his right) when racing in the other direction. The Killaheana and McPherson-trained seven-year-old was well supported for the Summer Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen last time but the track didn’t suit, and he could only finish ninth of 14, taking his record right-handed to 314369 (1-6) with the win when odds-on for a maiden hurdle at Huntingdon. His record in today’s direction reads 11311B1 (5-7), with the third place in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham when doing best of those to come from off the pace. He bombed out on his only previous Flat run, finishing sixth of seven when 100-30 for a 1m6f Goodwood maiden, but he hung badly to his left on the right-handed track and today’s venue will prove far more suitable.
7.45 Southwell – NAEPOINT (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, Betway, Boylesports – all paying four places, 18/1 generally)
NAEPOINT has form figures in handicap company of 10110 (3-5) and although those runs all took place over a straight mile, he looks worth chancing around Southwell’s bends this evening. Richard Fahey’s four-year-old ran well at left-handed Wolverhampton on his debut back in October 2023, staying on into an 18-1 third in a 6f maiden, and the absence since his seasonal/stable debut third in the Spring Mile at Doncaster suggests a physical issue that day (he also pressed the pace into the headwind in a race set up for the closers). That was his first start since a gelding operation and, since 2012, Fahey’s all-weather record with runners on their second run since gelded stands at 15 wins from 66 bets for a profit of £71.38 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who ran on turf last time out were nine from 27 (+£66.88).
