6.30 Southwell – SOAMES FORSYTE (1pt win – 4/1 with bet365)
SOAMES FORSYTE disappointed over 7f at Southwell in December on his return from wind surgery but has taken off since upped to 1m-1m1f, recording form figures of 113252 (2-6). He only went down by a length and a half to Cephalus over course and distance last time when the only one of the first five home to race on the pace. The winner followed up at Lingfield and Soames Forsyte was almost two lengths clear of the third. Michael Herrington’s five-year-old faces a tough rival in the shape of Lough Leane, who is on a five-timer, but the pace horses weren’t coming back to them here on Tuesday night and he could prove hard to pick up.
7.30 Southwell – BERRY CLEVER (1pt win – 15/2 with bet365)
Chris Dwyer was quick to link up with Silvestre De Sousa again when the Brazilian jockey returned from Hong Kong, and they can strike with BERRY CLEVER in this 7f handicap. The son of Expert Eye was well backed ahead of his handicap debut at Wolverhampton in mid-November but was badly hampered soon after the start and shuffled back to last place. He had a mountain to climb at halfway and actually did well to stay on into a 9-2 fifth of nine, especially as Marco Ghiani tried to challenge on the inside rail. He was stepped up from 7f to 1m when running in another nursery, this time at Newcastle, just five days later where he again attracted market support before finding Alfred too good. The winner followed up before a narrow defeat at Lingfield a couple of runs later and is now rated 15lb higher. Dwyer has his team in good form, with a 9-2 winner and a trio of placed horses (33-1, 16-1 and 9-1) from his seven runners in the past fortnight.
