2.55 Ffos Las – SHE WENT WHOOSH (1pt win – 2/1 bet365)
As usual, prominent racers enjoyed the best of things on the straight course at Leicester’s meeting on July 31, with the four winners described as “made all”, “led, joined halfway, led clearly over 1f out”, “prominent, led after 1f” and “prominent led over 2f out”. SHE WENT WHOOSH didn’t quite live up to her name in the 5f nursery, but Richard Hannon’s filly fared best of the closers in a one-length third and the daughter of Profitable shouldn’t have a problem with the heavy ground today. Please note: there’s a precautionary inspection at 7.30am.
6.30 Newbury – ISLAND BANDIT (1pt win – 14/1 bet365)
The front-running ISLAND BANDIT disappointed in this race 12 months ago, finishing a 7-1 seventh of nine, but it was a 0-90 Class 3 contest that day and it has been downgraded to a 0-80 Class 4 affair this year. Heather Main’s five-year-old usually runs well at this time of year, recording form figures of 11117 (4-5) in the month of August and he might be able to dominate down the middle under Silvestre De Sousa, despite the big field.

However, in this week’s Myth Busters column, Andrew Mount asks whether “gambling yards” still exist, ones which love to land a touch with a well-backed favourite. When I first became interested in horse racing some stables were…
