4.30 Yarmouth – WONDER SMILE (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
WONDER SMILE has had six runs, all over the specialist 7f trip, but has looked to be crying out for this extra furlong on more than one occasion. Hugo Palmer’s three-year-old was beaten by five lengths at Newmarket last time but he fared clear best of those to come from off the pace and should get a good tow into the race down the stands’ side courtesy of Dion Baker and Maple.
9.00 Newbury – HEY BIG SPENDER (1pt win – 7/1 William Hill, 13/2 BetVictor, Betfair)
9.00 Newbury – NEW KINGS ROAD (1pt win – 100/30 bet365, 3-1 William Hill)
Early pace was the key ingredient in the 1m Leicester handicap won by Salamanca Lad last Thursday, with the winner and runner-up one-two throughout. Third-placed Magnificent Match was also prominent, and it was the performance of HEY BIG SPENDER in fourth that took eye. The William Haggas-trained handicap debutante, drawn wide in stall 7 of 8, wasn’t helped by ducking left on leaving the stalls and raced keenly in first-time blinkers but kept on well to finish two lengths behind the winner.
I also want to side with NEW KINGS ROAD who did well to finish a half-length third at Pontefract last time. Richard Hannon’s gelding was well drawn towards the inside that day but contributed to the strong early gallop and was passed by two hold-up horses who sat 5th/6th in the early stages. New Kings Road had almost five lengths to spare over Visibility, who raced along side him in the early exchanges and that one returned to Pontefract to score at 28-1 earlier this week.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Should We Expect Business As Usual When A Stable Is Taken Over By A Family Member?
Nowadays, we often see more than one name on a training licence – John & Thady Gosden for example – as a prelude to the younger member of the family taking over in their own right but will this change affect the way the yard operates, or will it be business as usual? My Proform…
