2.25 Leicester – JOHNNY MAC (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 100/30 William Hill)
David’s Well, the likeliest front-runner in this 2m handicap chase, is an interesting recruit to fences and looks set to run a big race but his chance is covered in an opening price of 11-8 and I’d rather take a punt on the Matt Sheppard-trained JOHNNY MAC. The lightly rated nine-year-old failed to score in eight starts for Tom Gretton but has done well for his current yard, recording form figures of 1117P3 (3-6), improving to 111 (3-3) on right-handed tracks. Two of those wins came here at Leicester (the other at Hereford) and the market looks to have over-reacted to his three left-handed defeats.
