The hat-trick seeking DASHING DONKEY had to settle for fourth place in the 7f Evening Racing @leicesterraces Wednesday 24th July Handicap but had the worst of the draw in stall 12 of 12 (once adjusted for non-runners) and challenged closest to the stands’ side rail, rarely the place to be on the straight course at Leicester. Bill Stone’s three-year-old has form figures on straight tracks of 2114 (2-4), with the runner-up effort by a short head, and he looks the sole pace in this 1m contest. The wind is into their faces tonight but it might not be strong enough to make a difference and he’s still worth a bet.
8.30 Chepstow – AKKADIAN THUNDER (1pt win – 7/2 bet365/Hills)
AKKADIAN THUNDER took his record on straight tracks since joining David O’Meara to 121 (2-3) when landing a 7f handicap on good ground at Doncaster last month. The runner-up effort was arguably his best performance – he was up against the usual pace/draw bias when 22-1 at Redcar – and he faces his ideal conditions in this 7f Racing League contest. He’s in Class 2 company for the first time but is on an upward curve and this is only his ninth career start.
