7.10 Chepstow – RHUBARB (1pt ew – 12/1 with bet365)
Chepstow regular RHUBARB finished a respectable 33-1 fourth at Nottingham under Darragh Keenan four days ago and it’s interesting to see Tom Marquand back on board. The leading jockey’s three previous rides on the Richard Price-trained veteran have produced two wins and a desperately unlucky sixth of 13. She’s very consistent when running in Chepstow handicaps after a recent run (within 28 days), recording form figures of 534916411143223353 (4-18) for a profit of £8.25 to a £1 level stake at SP.
7.30 Ayr – BE PROUD (1pt win – 9/2 William Hill)
This 6f Class 3 handicap looks very playable as Slainte Mhath (7-2 joint-favourite at the time of writing) likes soft/heavy going and will be vulnerable on the prevailing good to firm (good in places) ground if she runs (she’s usually scratched on good or faster going). The Caltonian, the other 7-2 joint favourite, is 0-10 on turf (five from 12 on the all-weather) while Zarzyni (6-1) is notoriously hard to win with. Rock Melody (best at Musselburgh and happier on slower ground) and Snazzy Jazzy (best on soft/heavy) could also prove vulnerable making this look a straight fight between stablemates BE PROUD and Jordan Electrics, with the booking of Paul Mulrennan for the former just swinging it. Be Proud clocked a good time when keeping on into sixth of 15 in a 5f Class 2 handicap at Musselburgh on last month’s reappearance under 5lb claimer Amy Waugh and Mulrennan is five from 20 when doing the steering on him (+£20.33 to a £1 level stake at SP).
