1.30 Lingfield – JENSON BENSON (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 bet365, five places, 16/1 generally, five places)
JENSON BENSON has yet to win away from Chelmsford but his patient running style should be fine for Lingfield where he has yet to race despite being well into the veteran stage. Shaun Lycett’s gelding has been off the track since May 13th and, while it’s always possible that this is a prep before a run at Chelmsford on Thursday night, I don’t want to miss him in a big field on Polytrack. His full record in all-weather handicaps of 11 or more runners reads 1311002368 (3-10), improving to 13112368 (3-8) at today’s Class 6 level, and he should have the race run to suit.
4.14 Leicester – SUSIE SIOUX (1pt e/w – 5/1 bet365, 9/2 Betfred)
Low draws enjoyed the best of things at Pontefract last Monday where six of the seven winners came from stalls 1, 2 or 3 with the other in trap 5. SUSIE SIOUX (stall 9 of 12) was soon switched to the inside rail from her poor wide draw in the 1m Class 5 handicap but met trouble in running, doing well to finish a length and a half behind ARKENSTAAR (re-opposes today and the main danger) when fifth of the 12 runners. Today’s slightly smaller field will suit as progeny of her sire Sioux Nation are 176 from 959 (18.4% strike-rate) in fields of ten or fewer runners on the Flat (+£25.68 to a £1 level stake at SP, +£204.94 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). She has form at Carlisle and today’s stiff right-handed track will suit.
