2.33 Redcar – ENTER SANDMAN (1pt each-way – 8/1 bet365)
ENTER SANDMAN showed plenty of promise on his debut when a 14-1 fifth of nine in a 5f restricted maiden on the turf at Lingfield back in June where he had the worst of the draw in stall 1. The winner and runner-up came form the two highest stalls and he wasn’t helped by hanging to his left, putting him even further away from the favoured near side rail. Richard Spencer’s colt was nibbled at in the betting (14-1 from 18-1) for a valuable sales race at Newmarket next time and though only 14th of 20, he ran much better than his finishing position suggested. That race was dominated by high-drawn prominent racers, but he was ridden patiently from stall 3 and we’ve already seen the sixth (Anaisa, stall 1), eighth (Arduis Invicta, stall 4) and tenth (Guernsey Angel, stall 7) land gambles next time out (12-1 from 40-1, 13-8f from 9-1 and 11-8f from 6-1, the last two when advised in this column).
4.55 Wolverhampton – JUSTCALLMESERGIO (1pt win – 5/4 bet365)
JUSTCALLMESERGIO also ran in the same Newmarket sales race as Enter Sandman (see above), finishing 12th of 20 at odds of 7-2. He wasn’t best drawn that day (stall 8 of 20) and it’s safe to draw a line through it, even allowing for him being switched to the far side after two furlongs. Clive Cox’s colt ran out a comfortable winner when 5-1 for a firm ground Bath maiden on his debut in mid-August, just seven days before his Newmarket run, and his breeding suggests that Tapeta won’t be a problem.

Andrew Mount On…Ballydoyle Jockeys – Does Ryan Moore’s Injury Provide A Betting Opportunity?
Ryan Moore has been ruled out for the remainder of the Flat turf season with a broken leg, and I want to use this week’s article to discuss how his absence might affect Aidan O’Brien’s operation in the next few months, especially with the runners at British racecourses.
