3.40 Lingfield – YANTARNI (1.5pt win – 11/2 bet365, 5/1 Sky Bet, BetVictor)
YANTARNI has recorded two comfortable 7f wins from two runs at this venue on turf and can make it three from three with the 7f140y trip unlikely to pose a problem. Ian Williams’ six-year-old caught the eye at Doncaster on his penultimate start, doing well to finish just over six lengths behind the winner after racing prominently into the headwind. He was one of several who contributed to a strong early pace when weakening into a 16-1 last of ten in My Cloud’s race at Ascot last time and we’ve already seen that form boosted. He’s won three of his last four starts in cheekpieces (both course wins came in this headgear) and it’s interesting to see them go back on for the first time since last July.

4.40 Lingfield – MART (1.5pt win – 9/4 Betfair/Sky Bet)
MART hit form at about this time last year, landing a 6f Newmarket handicap before following up over the same trip on Lingfield’s Polytrack. Class is the key to Dylan Cunha’s four-year-old who took his record in Class 4 or better company to 64552204880956 (0-14) when sixth at Leicester last month on his return from a 116-day break. That run was likely needed, and he looks very interesting now back at Class 5 level, especially as he’s drawn against the favoured stands’ rail in stall 5 of 5 and has the early speed to hold the rail pitch. His full record in Class 5 or lower company stands at 666811312211107 (6-14) for a profit of £27.88 to a £1 level stake at SP and he’s won his last two turf starts under these conditions off marks of 75 and 71. He runs off 70 today and is 1-1 under David Probert.

Andrew’s Angles – Why the London Gold Cup Can Be a Group Race Springboard
There’s a cracking meeting at Newbury on Saturday where the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes takes centre stage. I want to use this week’s column to discuss one of the supporting races – the 1m2f London Gold Cup Handicap. This heritage handicap has often been a springboard to Group-race glory, as we can see from the…
