3.38 Beverley – ELEGANT ERIN (0.5pt e/w – 33/1 generally)
ELEGANT ERIN caught the eye against the pace bias when a 100-1 sixth of nine in the Listed Beverley Bullet Stakes over course and distance at the end of August and appreciated the drop in grade when landing a gamble for this column in a Class 4 handicap over the same track and trip last week. Paul Midgley’s veteran is back up in grade to Class 2 conditions company today, but her course expertise could help her to out-run huge odds again and it’s worth remembering that First Instinct, best of the hold-up horses when dead-heating for fourth place in the Bullet, was only half a length ahead of her and that rival went to score in Group 3 company at Newbury, reversing form with the winner Shagraan who was a neck back in second place. She should get the required strong pace thanks to DEMOCRACY DILEMMA, who may have been flattered by his all-the-way Haydock win as he raced on the ‘golden highway’ (he also has a poor record when bidding to follow up a win). Hopefully, that rival will get taken on at the head of affairs by ALZAHIR, though likely to prove dangerous given his 2-2 record over 5-5.5f.
5.00 Warwick – JUBILANT (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
JUBILANT’s patient running style isn’t usually associated with success over fences at Warwick but with front-runners BUMPY EVANS, JET SMART and SMUGGLERS HAVEN in opposition it could be a potent weapon. James Owen’s six-year-old took his record over fences to 131 (2-3) when scoring by ten lengths in a fast time at Worcester on his latest start and has been freshened up since. Bumpy Evans (11-8f) made a series of jumping errors prior to falling at Uttoxeter last time but finds himself at the head of the betting once again. Jet Smart disappointed when we were on at Worcester last time, probably because he was taken on for the lead, but I’ll be having a small saver in case Bumpy Evans departs early and he doesn’t get pressed hard for the lead.

Andrew’s Angles – Vital Gelding Stats And Trainers To Watch
