11.00 Lingfield – GUERNSEY ANGEL (1pt win – 7/2 bet365)
The concern with backing front-runners at Lingfield is that they could migrate to the inside rail where the Polytrack surface is usually at its deepest but stall 8 of 8 will help GUERNSEY ANGEL stay out of the ‘swamp’ as will the presence of pressers in stalls 1 and 4. David Evans’ filly was a huge eyecatcher when a 66-1 tenth of 20 in a sales race at Newmarket on her penultimate start, doing third best of those drawn in single figures, and we were at the forefront of the winning gamble at Wolverhampton on her latest outing where she backed from the overnight 13-2 into 11-8 favouritism. That form was franked when the runner-up and third both won next time, while the fourth (second at 9-1) and fifth (third at 11-1) both ran well in defeat on their next starts.
5.00 Wolverhampton – CRACK SHOT (1pt e/w – 10/1 generally)
CRACK SHOT was only fourth at Chelmsford on his debut for James Owen back in August, but he blew the start from a wide draw and then did too much too soon under Jamie Spencer. The first-time visor went on at Chester next time where he very much caught the eye with a best-of-the-closers 9-1 third to Spioradalta (winner again since). Stall 2 made life difficult over 1m2f at Newcastle om his third run for Owen where he did well to finish a 7-1 second and his comprehensive Pontefract defeat can be forgiven on account of very soft going and a strong inside bias. He’s finished in the frame in all three career all-weather starts, and he should get a true pace to aim at.
