The Tim Easterby-trained TEMPER TRAP tends to come good at about this time of year, winning three of his four starts in the last week of July (+£12.63 to a £1 level stake at SP) and six of his 13 starts in August (+£4.08). Perhaps more interesting is that when he runs well (defined as finishing first or second) he tends to back it up, provided he’s returned to the track within four weeks of his latest outing – his record under these conditions being ten wins from 20 starts for a profit of £12.61. The eight-year-old finished a close second at Hamilton 14 days ago and his two previous runs at today’s venue produced a win and a half-length second.
4.50 Musselburgh – SOPHIESTICATE (1pt win – evens bet365)
SOPHIESTICATE has proved very expensive to follow in the last couple of years and arrives here on the back of 16 straight defeats. However, Jim Goldie’s six-year-old is two from two at this venue, with the wins coming off handicap marks of 68 and 65 and she runs off just 60 today. She failed to settle – not for the first time – when runner-up at Ayr last time (15-8 favourite) and the return to this venue, coupled with the likely decent gallop (she faces only four rivals but three of them have made the running recently), could see her end a frustrating spell this afternoon.
