Andrew Mount has three tips for Tuesday 27th May and they all line up at Brighton on the south coast.

3.40 Brighton – AIKHAL (1.5pt win – 4/1 Sky Bet, 7/2 generally)
Brighton doesn’t have the best quality racing today but it’s going to be fascinating to watch because of the very strong forecast headwind in the straight (gusting up to 45mph). My punting strategy is obviously to look for horses likely to be ridden patiently who can get cover from the wind before being played late. Step forward AIKHAL in this 1m2f handicap – Jamie Osborne’s son of Galileo looks incredibly well handicapped on his return to turf and the six-year-old, whose last three close-up comments form the Racing Post read “held up in rear”, “midfield” and “midfield”, is likely to be ridden with restraint.
He can be forgiven some recent modest efforts at Kempton/Wolverhampton as he’s 0-12 on the all-weather. Both of his wins have come on turf, albeit in Ireland for a different trainer, and this will be the first time he’s been professionally ridden on grass since going down by two and a half lengths off a mark of 81 in a Racing League contest at Windsor last August.
He runs off just 59 today. TWILIGHT GUEST is also likely to be played late and George Margarson’s 28-race maiden could be the one for the forecast. My pre-weather forecast plan in this race had to been to back ENGLISH SPIRIT thanks to his solid seventh of 13 against the pace bias at Newbury last time in that race that has produced subsequent scorer Newfangled. However, he usually races on the front end, and I won’t be having a penny on today.
4.10 Brighton – SECRET STRENGTH (1.5pt win – 3/1 generally) & UNCLE DICK (0.5pt win – 4/1 generally)
Brighton’s best race on the card – a 0-80 Class 4 handicap over the 7f trip (though still only worth £5,300 to the winner) – looks worth tackling as the current 7-4 favourite OJ LIFESTYLE is likely to go from the front and get np cover from the wind (his last three close-up comments are “prominent, headway to lead 2f out”, “pressed leader, led over 2f out” and “led”. LITTLE BOY BLUE, the 9-1 outsider of five, is also likely to put pace to the race, while INTERVENTION (just one from 33 on turf) has also made the running in the past.
SECRET STRENGTH is the obvious alternative having arrived late when a three-quarters of a length fourth at Chelmsford last time. Shaun Lycett’s six-year-old fared best of the closers when fourth at Southwell on his penultimate start and will be able to get cover from stall 2.
UNCLE DICK needs further but loves Brighton, landing seven of his 14 course starts for a profit of £40.70 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 2.78). All the wins came over 1m, but the headwind will bring his stamina into play and he’s worth a saver.
