3.55 Leicester – SHE IS A KEEPER (1pt win – 4/1 William Hill)
SHE IS A KEEPER enjoyed cut in the ground when trained by Richard Hannon and encounters it for the first time since joining Gay Kelleway. Her sole success came in first-time blinkers on her debut for her current handler and it’s interesting to see the first-time visor applied today. Kelleway is showing a profit of £78.00 with this headgear since the spring of 2016 and Hollie Doyle takes over from Luke Morris, which is certainly a jockey upgrade on recent evidence. Since the beginning of last year Doyle is 18 from 60 (30% strike-rate) when taking over from Morris for a profit of £45.24 to a £1 level stake at SP. She Is A Keeper looks well drawn towards the centre of the track in this 7f handicap and drops into claiming grade.
4.25 Leicester – PERIANTH (0.5pt ew – 18/1 William Hill)
Since 2005, Pam Sly has a 12 from 61 record in low-grade (Class 5 or below) Flat races at Leicester and backing the qualifiers blind would have returned a huge profit of £142.25 to a £1 level stake at SP, with 30 of the 49 beaten horses running second, third or fourth. PERIANTH ran well in a 6f maiden here at this two-day meeting last year, finishing a 33-1 sixth of ten (beaten by just over six lengths) and followed that with a third place at Newmarket in late June. We didn’t see her again until last month when beating only one home at Windsor but that run would have been needed and there could be improvement to come on her handicap debut. She’s bred to appreciate today’s soft conditions and looks well drawn down the middle in stall 2 of 10.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Is Being Gelded a Negative Where Flat Horses are Concerned?
The low draw dilemma proved as prevalent a discussion point as ever during the Chester May meeting last week. Andrew Mount discussed that in last week‘s column, but turns his attentions to a broader question for this week: should being gelded be regarded as a negative for flat horses? The Nigel Tinkler-trained Duran trailed home…
