1.57 Lingfield – HAT TOSS (1pt win – 4/1 William Hill)
HAT TOSS was becoming frustrating on the all-weather until scoring narrowly at odds of 6-1 at Chelmsford last month where the step back up to 1m clearly suited. James Owens’ four-year-old hasn’t had many opportunities over this trip for his current yard, recording form figures of 4611 (2-4), with excuses for both defeats. He made up ground too quickly under an apprentice jockey and was hampered when fourth at Bath in May and his two and a half length sixth of seven at Haydock the following month can be attributed to the small field and steady early gallop. There should be significant early pace in today’s 12-runner contest to make his come-from-behind-style effective and the presence of Pjanoo is helpful, as that rival put pace to the race when he won at Chelmsford.

3.00 Lingfield – EPSOM FAITHFULL (1pt win – 8/1 William Hill)
Backing EPSOM FAITHFULL blind during her career would have found 11 winners from 42 for a profit of £139.45 to a £1 level stake at SP, a figure that was boosted considerably with a 100-1 course and distance success last time out. Pat Phelan’s seven-year-old, who was running over 1m2f for the first time, did well to win from stall 1 of 9 that day as she never left the ‘dead’ inside rail. It would be easy to dismiss that win as a fluke, but the time was more than respectable and a 3lb rise still leaves her 15lb lower than her career-high mark.
