5.05 Gowran Park – ICE COLD IN ALEX (1pt ew) – 15/2 Betfair
ICE COLD IN ALEX twice ran well against pace biases at the Curragh last month, faring second best of the closers when a 10-1 sixth of 14 in a 6f handicap on August 10th and repeating the trick when sixth of 21 over the same trip just a week later. He has plenty of form over this trip, albeit he hasn’t attempted it for some time, and his four course outings (all over 7f) have produced a trio of third-placed efforts and a two-length seventh of 14. He’s likely to be finishing to good effect and can make the frame again.
6.45 Newcastle – HAVEYOUMISSEDME (1.5pt win) – 3/1 bet365 & CAPTAIN POTTER (1pt win) – 8/1 365
HAVEYOUMISSEDME tends to peak at this time of year, with three of his four wins coming in September and the other in October. Iain Jardine’s six-year-old looked on his way back when runner-up to Zivaniya over course and distance last month and has live prospects of reversing the form. The winner got a very easy lead that day but could face pace pressure from Clockwatcher and possibly Magnetic North this time around. Haveyoumissedme blanked in 2023 but his full record in handicaps in September/October reads 1112218 (4-7), with the unplaced effort excusable as it came at York on the back of a 404-day absence.
I also want to side with CAPTAIN POTTER, who fared best of the hold-up horses when fifth I the Zivaniya/Haveyoumissedme course and distance race last month. He could only finish sixth of 12 at Carlisle next time but was reportedly never travelling and is likely to do better now back on Tapeta in first-time cheekpieces.
7.00 Southwell – KALAMUNDA (1pt win) – 12/1 bet365
Jospeh Parr KALAMUNDA beat only one home at Newmarket on last month’s belated reappearance and did so again at Pontefract shortly afterwards, finishing 31 lengths behind the winner. However, turf is clearly not his surface, and his two previous all-weather runs have produced a wide-margin course and distance win and a similarly smooth Kempton success. The four-year-old returns to synthetics with his stable in good form and he looks set to run a big race.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Do Low Draws Still Enjoy a Big Advantage at Chester?
Chester is a track renowned for its unusual, constantly turning layout, which often leads punters to backing inside draws blind. However, in his latest Myth Busters column, Andrew Mount examines whether this is still so evidently the case. As a punter who once specialised in draw bias (I co-wrote two books on the subject in…
