4.25 Leicester – HARB (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
Tanjen comfortably justified 3-1 favouritism at Southwell last Tuesday to take her record on Tapeta to two wins – by a combined margin of 6.25L – from two starts but she’s 0-7 on turf and is far from certain to back up that performance. HARB finished ahead of Tanjen (third) when making a winning debut for Tristan Davidson at Ayr last month and his trainer does well with second-time switchers who finished in the top five on their stable debuts, scoring with 11 of the 33 qualifiers since 2018 for a profit of £5.63 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 6.59, A/E = 3.69). Fenlander is on my radar for a similar race and Pam Sly does well here, but the softer ground would have been preferable for the son of Territories.
5.15 Carlisle – CANARIA SUN (1pt win – 10/1 Paddy Power)
There’s precious little in the way of early pace in this 6f handicap and I’m hoping that Tim Easterby’s CANARIA SUN gets loose on the lead in first-time blinkers. The three-year-old clocked a good speed figure when a three-length 28-1 fifth of 11 at Pontefract on her latest start and that race certainly worked out well, with the runner-up, third and eighth all winning since, the fourth going down by just half a length at 8-1 on her next outing and the sixth finishing second by three-quarters of a length next time (seventh-placed Gis A Sub, who ran in the 7.40 at Newcastle last night may have franked the form further come post time). Canaria Sun needs to prove his effectiveness on slow ground, but the pace scenario makes him worth the wish.
