2.30 Salisbury – LITTLE WHITE DOVE (0.5pt ew – 33/1 generally)
LITTLE WHITE DOVE is in danger of becoming a cliff horse for me but we’re always going to get a price about her as she’s trained by Mark Usher, and she was far from disgraced when an 18-1 fifth after meeting trouble in running at Brighton last time. With luck, they’ll go hard in this 7fb apprentice handicap and set it up for a closer, suggesting she’s worth a small each-way dabble at a huge price. The step back up to 7f could suit and the likely strong gallop will suit.
4.00 Salisbury – HEY BIG SPENDER (2pt win – 4/1 William Hill, BetVictor)
HEY BIG SPENDER caught the eye against the pace bias when fourth to Salamanca Lad (who went on to complete a hat-trick) at Leicester in late June, doing clear best of those to come from the rear when going down by less than two lengths in fourth. She ran another solid fourth in a 1m handicap at Newbury next time in a race that is working out extremely well – winner Great Chieftain has finished second by a neck and first (when 20-1 at the Goodwood festival) in his two subsequent starts, runner-up Flag Carrier was a best-of-the-closers 9-1 third to Salamanca Lad at Sandown on his next outing, while third-placed Tribal Chief, who started as the 15-8 favourite at Newbury, won well at Kempton 48 hours ago. The sixth and fifth – New Kings Road and Happy Chandler – ran one-three at Windsor earlier this month. Hey Big Spender has left the William Haggas yard for 28,000gns since that run and looks worth a good bet to make a winning start for in-form Ollie Sangster.
