4.25 Cheltenham – CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK (1pt win – 16/1 bet365)

Fergal O’Brien’s CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK is a standing dish on Cheltenham’s New Course in the spring. The 11-year-old landed the 4m hunter chase in April 2021, returned the following year to land this 3m2f handicap chase and repeated the trick last term. His full record in March/April stands at 1431111 (5-7) for a profit of £16.32, improving to 31111 (4-5) over fences only. Age will catch up with at some point, but he’s relatively lightly-raced and is worth a small bet with the ground in his favour.

5.00 Cheltenham – OUR CHAMP (1pt win – 3/1 bet365)

5.00 Cheltenham – A LAW OF HER OWN (1pt win – 20/1 bet365)

OUR CHAMP is ground dependent, recording form figures on good going for current trainer Chris Gordon of 111 (3-3), with the latest success in a race worth £39,000 to the winner at Plumpton. The six-year-old, who was having his second run following a wind operation, should find conditions to his liking if they don’t overdo the watering and remains open to further improvement.

At a bigger price I also want to side with A LAW OF HER OWN, who makes her debut for Dan Skelton. She lost her way for Peter Fahey after last August’s Galway success in an 18-runner mares’ handicap hurdle on good/yielding ground but hasn’t had underfoot conditions to suit since that win. Her new handler does well at the first time of asking with new acquisitions, including a 41 from 141 haul (29.1%) in handicap hurdles since 2010 for a profit of £16.52 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who ran over hurdles last time out, as A Law Of Her Own did, were 33 from 98 for a profit of £35.00.
