Safer Gambling Week 2025
This year Safer Gambling Week runs from Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd November, with the intention to educate bettors around the importance of responsible gambling. Here at GG we fully support the initiative and have pulled some information together about how people can evaluate whether they are betting safely and the tools offered by bookmakers…
Wed 12 Nov 202512.55 Warwick – EXCELERO (2pt win – 9/4 generally)
This three-runner 2m novices’ limited handicap chase looks very interesting as 11-8 favourite SPIRITS BAY is usually ridden patiently, tactics rarely helpful at this venue, and also makes his debut over fences MISTER CESSNA, the 2-1 second market choice is on a hat-trick, but he jumped out to his right on his return to chasing at Uttoxeter last time and could also struggle round here. Process of elimination leads us to Jane Williams’ EXCELERO, who didn’t stay 2m4f when a 14-1 front-running fourth of five at Worcester last time. His yard’s chasers usually come on appreciably for their first run over fences and he ran well over hurdles here on his sole previous course visit, chasing home Salver (now rated 148) in a juvenile hurdle. The five-year-old has gone well on his second outing in each of his two previous campaigns, finishing a 25-1 fourth to Sir Gino in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham on Trials Day and scoring at Bangor last term. The soft ground is another bonus.
5.40 Kempton – LOCAL HERO (1.5pt win – 9/2 bet365, 4/1 generally)
Drifting favourite SILVER PEAK (5-2 best with the firms at the time of writing but out to 6.6 on Betfair) has been off the track since his fourth to Delacroix in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Newmarket 13 months ago and makes his handicap debut. Charlie Appleby’s son of Dubawi has been gelded in the interim and that’s a negative where his trainer/sire combination is concerned. In the past two years Appleby’s newly-gelded Dubawis are one from 29 for a loss of £25.00 (expected winners = 7.24, A/E = 0.14). The solid alternative is Richard Hannon’s course expert LOCAL HERO, who clocked a fast time when scoring over course and distance in a Class 3 handicap on his latest outing. The four-year-old’s full course record reads 1114221 (4-7), with the runner-up efforts by a head and a neck.
