4.05 Newmarket – LUNAR ECLIPSE (1pt win – 6/1 William Hill)

LUNAR ECLIPSE overcame greenness to make a winning debut for David Simcock on heavy ground here last November and though well beaten on her only subsequent outing, that was in a 1m2f Listed contest on good ground and it’s likely that conditions were simply too quick for the daughter of Night Of Thunder and she did best of those to come from off the pace. She also clocked a good time for that 16-length fifth and the race certainly worked out well, with winner Friendly Soul winning three from four since (including in Group 1 company) and runner-up Kalpana also landing three of her four subsequent starts, including last week’s Group 1 Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes. The three-year-old is now with Kevin Ryan and could be worth chancing now returned to the scene of her sole success on the back of a break.

5.40 Kempton – SPIRIT OF ALBION (0.5pt ew – 100/1 bet365)

Amanda Perrett has a solid record with second time out two-year-olds on the all-weather, scoring with 19 of the 94 qualifiers for a profit of £91.01 to a £1 level stake at SP and the gelded SPIRIT OF ALBION is her first such runner since Miss Down Under recorded at 14-1 success at Kempton in October 2021. At Kempton only, the score is 12 from 36 (+£82.49) and the last gelding to qualify on this angle was 16-1 winner Count Otto in November 2017. The son of Invincible Spirit was beaten by 23 lengths when sixth of eight at Newmarket on last month’s debut but started at 125-1 and failed to handle the soft ground. His half-brother, Okami, failed to score on turf but was three from eight on Polytrack and scored at Chelmsford on his all-weather debut.
