3.45 Goodwood – ASHARIBA (1pt win – 7/1 bet365, 13/2 generally)
There’s not a huge amount of pace in this 1m1f fillies’ handicap, despite the big field, and ASHARIBA should be able to obtain a good early position despite being drawn wide in stall 14. David Menuisier’s four-year-old made much of the running when completing a hat-trick at Newmarket last October and has had excuses in two runs this term. She came from off the pace when seventh of 13 to Ecureuil Secret at Epsom on Oaks Day – a meeting where every runner who was ridden patiently tasted defeat – and prominent tactics were no help on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface next time in a race teed up for the closers. Tom Marquand, two from two on her, takes over from Harry Davies today.
4.35 Redcar – CARLTON AND CO (1.5pt win – 4/1 bet365)
CARLTON AND CO is hardly prolific, scoring just twice from 36 starts but she does tend to go well around August 1st, finishing second by a head at 4-1 in a 7f maiden at Redcar (August 6th, 2022), winning at 9-2 over the same trip at Newcastle (August 3rd, 2023) and adding a Leicester victory over 6f when 11-4 on July 31st last year. Coincidence? Perhaps, but she hinted at a revival when a two-length fourth at Pontefract earlier this month and the return to Redcar for the first time since that narrow maiden defeat could see her back to winning ways.
4.55 Goodwood – LEADMAN (1pt e/w – 6/1 bet365, 11/2 generally)
This 7f 0-95 handicap is a good trends race, with nine of the past ten winners coming from off the pace. A top six finish last time out has also been a good pointer to the winner. If we combine the two angles – a Proform pace rating of 0 or 2 (on a scale of 1-12) and a top six prep run – we would have found eight of the last ten winners (from 36 bets) for a profit of £59.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. LEADMAN arrived late when scoring at Newmarket last time out and the patiently-ridden runners in third/fourth – Two Tribes and Sterling Knight – both won at the next time of asking (25-1 and 11-4). Sixth-placed Hickory, another who came from off the pace at Newmarket, went close at Ascot last Saturday to give the form another boost.

Andrew’s Angles – Soft Ground Sires for When Summer Weather Turns
The British weather has taken a turn for the worse in the past few days (as it usually does when hosepipe bans are introduced) and we saw thunderstorms turn the ground soft at Windsor on Monday night and Beverley raced on officially heavy going. Windsor’s muddy track produced some bookmaker friendly results (33-1 and 14-1…
