12.40 Haydock – IT’S MAISY (1pt ew – 7/1 bet365)
Runners from the Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith yard usually need their comeback outing and it was no surprise to see IT’S MAISY drift from 7-2 out to 15-2 before her reappearance sixth at Bangor just over five weeks ago. The six-year-old showed up well for a long way on her first start since her comfortable Uttoxeter victory back in April and only went down by six lengths. Her record in handicap company, aside from seasonal debuts, stands at 11221 (3-5) and she’s likely to do better with that run behind her.

2.03 Ludlow – PANIC ATTACK (1pt win – 7/1 William Hill)
PANIC ATTACK was last seen finishing third of four as even-money favourite for a mares’ handicap chase at Warwick in February 2023 when trained by David Pipe and looks very interesting now back over hurdles on her debut for Dan Skelton. The eight-year-old has form figures in mares-only races of 1211832113 (5-10) for a profit of £5.55 to a £1 level stake at SP and is capable of running well when fresh. She runs off her hurdles mark of 120 – 10lb lower than when fourth of 14 behind Stage Star, Datsalrightgino and Unexpected Party in the Timeform Novices’ Handicap Chase on her penultimate start and, if she retains her ability, she’s in with a big shout.
2.55 Lingfield – UPEPO (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
UPEPO was beaten by 22 lengths when third of five over 2m here last time but that was in the apprentice handicap where four of the jockeys received bans after letting the 28-1 outsider go clear. UPEPO only just lost out on second place by a neck and might have secured that position had he not ended up on the ‘dead’ inside rail in the closing stages. His record on Lingfield’s Polytrack now reads 1113 (3-4) and, while stall 2 is not idea in this 1m4f handicap, his patient style should ensure than Jack Doughty pulls him out of the ‘swamp’ to challenge. Gold Aura, just ahead of Upepo when second in the same farcical apprentice handicap, re-opposes but he’s now 0-22 and may have to settle for a place once more. The Upepo/Gold Aura straight forecast could offer some value.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Front Runners Are Strongly Favoured at Leicester
We are often told that certain tracks favour front-runners, but hurdle and chase courses can ride very differently, and we can’t always group these races together when considering the ideal running style for a particular venue. Leicester is a case in point, and I want to use this article to examine what’s required to win…
