4.05 Newton Abbot – CLEARANCE (0.5pt each-way with the firms paying three places, including 12-1 bet365)
CLEARANCE is well into the veteran stage, but he has a great record at Newton Abbot and is taken to win the race named in his honour. Michael Blake’s 11-year-old has form figures at this venue of 1341211113374 (6-13) for a profit of £29.00 to a £1 level stake at SP and he hinted at a return to form when a five-length fourth over course and distance last time. That was only a Class 5 contest, but this come-from-behind performer will be happier in this better race as they’ll go faster from the outset. He won this race last year and in 2022 (he missed the 2023 renewal) and he’s 9lb lower than 12 months ago.
5.50 Curragh – MARLBOROUGH PLACE (1pt win – 7/2 generally)
Blindly backing Amo Racing-owned (or part-owned) newcomers has been a profitable exercise, with 57 winners from 266 bets (21.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £33.71 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 45.17, A/E = 1.26). Adrian Murray has contributed with a nine from 27 haul (+£36.28) including form figures of 121131711 (6-9) with the three-year-olds for a profit of £41.53. The colts have form figures of 111711 (5-6) and while those winners all came at Dundalk, I’m happy to take a punt on Showcasing newcomer MARLBOROUGH MAN in this 6f maiden, especially as those with previous experience need to find something on the clock to match the class par speed for a race of this nature.
8.30 Curragh – KWA HERINI (0.5pt e/w – 40/1 generally) & SHOWHOUND (0.5pt e/w 16/1 generally)
KWA HERINI has improved since handicapping on turf, finishing just over one length back in fourth of 15 when 33-1 in a 6f Curragh handicap in mid-April and and doing best of the far side group when 11th of 27 over the same course and distance. There was a monster draw bias that day, favouring high numbers, with the five drawn 26, 27, 25, 24 and 23 and Kevin Coleman’s filly had little chance from stall 4. She’s in stall 19 of 25 tonight, which looks more suitable, and she’s worth an each-way dabble.
They went off too hard in the 7f PG Duffy & Sons Citroen Apprentice Handicap at Curragh’s meeting on May 5th and the race was set up for the closers out wide, with the first seven finishers drawn in stalls 24, 18, 11, 10, 15, 22, and 23 of 25. Five of the first six home came from midfield or further back and front-running third Tawaazon, best of the prominent racers, recorded a 7-1 success at Naas just five days later. SHOWHOUND (stall 3), sent off as the 4-1 favourite, raced closer to the early pace than ideal and his ninth place was worthy of an upgrade. A forcing ride in first-time blinkers could be in the offing now dropping back to 6f and he looks one of only a couple of pace angles despite the huge field. Tawaazon re-opposes here but was ridden patiently when a two-length seventh of 13 at Listowel a few days ago and it’s hard to know what the tactics will be here.

Andrew’s Angles – A Look at British vs Irish Trainers on the Flat
During the jumps season we’re used to British trainers being on the receiving end of a good kicking from Willie Mullins and other Irish trainers. It must have been heartbreaking for Dan Skelton to try all season to land his first trainers championship only for Mullins to win easily despite not seemingly bothered until the…
