4.50 Nottingham – WINTERCRACK (1pt win – 14/1 bet365)

WINTERCRACK
loves the mud, opening her account when 20-1 for a soft-ground 1m2f Leicester maiden last spring and doubling her career tally when landing a 1m Pontefract handicap on heavy going on this season’s comeback. She was beaten five lengths into second place by Maxi King when bidding to follow up at Ripon but the winner, rated 82 that day, is now on a mark of 102 and it was certainly no disgrace. Her full record below Listed level on officially soft or heavy going reads 01212 (2-5), with the ‘duck egg’ on her second career outing when still in need of the experience and the first runner-up effort by just a neck. The daughter of Cracksman was only tenth of 15 to Karmology at York in mid-July when we last saw her but still arrives here with the best last time out speed figure (according to Proform) and has been freshened up since. The presence of other front-runners tempers confidence slightly and I’ve downgraded by intended 2pt win bet to just 1pt.

7.45 Kempton – ASPIRE TO GLORY (1pt ew – 8/1 bet365)

Stall 11 of 12 made life difficult for the Alice Haynes-trained ASPIRE TO GLORY in the 8.6f Stone Cleaning & Restorative Handicap at Wolverhampton on September 7th and the three-year-old was in last place approaching the first bend. The front-runners put the brakes on at half-way and the 7-1 shot could never get involved, coming home in seventh place after ducking up the inside rail to challenge. His two wins have come in big-field 7f handicaps on Polytrack, one of them here at Kempton, and he’s worth a punt despite being ridden by 7lb claimer Anna Gibson (both his wins came when ridden by an apprentice claiming 7lb).
