Ascot & Haydock Racing Tips - GG Lucky 15 Best Bets for Saturday 14 February

This Saturday’s racing provides the highest quality contests prior to Cheltenham. There are top class meetings at Ascot and Haydock in particular.

GG tipster Joe Napier picks out our Lucky 15 best bets on Saturday from those two tracks. Three of his selections run in the Grade 1 & 2 contests during the afternoon.

Ascot Racing Tips (Saturday 14 February)

Ascot hosts the final Grade 1 before the Cheltenham Festival on Saturday. One of our lucky 15 selections runs in that contest, while we also have one tip in the opening race.

1.15 Ascot – Starzand (1pt win – 7/2)

What we saw of Mondoui’boy in the fog at Ludlow was impressive. However, it looks early to be making him a short-priced favourite ahead of Starzand, who can rebound here. The son of Harzand won his only bumper and his maiden hurdle at the first attempt in 2025. He was subsequently second to kick off 2026 behind a useful winner who scored again on Friday before getting bogged down in desperate conditions at Leicester. Though he clearly likes soft ground, the selection will have found that ground too tough, but he is clearly talented. Back on seasonal soft going, he could easily resume his progression as middle distances look certain to suit for now.

13:15 Betfair Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race)

3.35 Ascot – Pic D’orhy (1pt win – 15/8)

A winner of this race for the last two years, Pic D’orhy can complete the hat-trick. The 11-year-old is firmly a veteran nowadays, but loves this course and distance at this time of year. He has won the last two renewals by just under 16 lengths combined, putting in a dominant front-running display last season. Though he was not as his best behind Jango Baie over track and trip in November, he is expected to bounce back three months on and put favourite Jonbon’s jumping under pressure from the front. If his effort 12 months ago is to go by, Harry Cobden can attack with an aggressive ride. With his stamina guaranteed, this is his Gold Cup this season, whereas Jonbon has further targets. As a result, he can deliver once again for the in-form Paul Nicholls.

15:35 Betfair Ascot Chase (Grade 1) (GBB Race)

Haydock Racing Tips (Saturday 14 February)

Haydock’s card features competitive handicaps and Graded contests. Our two best bets come in the latter category.

2.05 Haydock – Henri The Second (1pt win – 8/1)

This race could well turn testing, which could challenge Kabral Du Mathan unduly at this stage of his career. He is clearly on the upgrade, but a 3m slog in the muid is ideal for Henri The Second. Paul Nicholls’ nine-year-old has twice won at around this trip on heavy at Sandown. He has simply galloped his rivals into submission in both those victories, the latest of which pushed him up 10lb in the handicap. Connections are right to give a Graded contest a crack now, especially with this race sure to fit his style. On ratings, he has plenty of work to do, but there is so much upside to his potential under these conditions that he may well be able to make the required leap.

14:05 ZYN Rendlesham Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race)

2.40 Haydock – Ubatuba (1pt win – 11/2)

Ubatuba was absolutely relentless at Leicester last time out and can remain unbeaten in this Grade 2. Olly Murphy’s charge was a winning pointer, who may have won twice in that sphere but for a fall. Since joining the rules ranks, he has impressed, scoring by 16 lengths and 9½ lengths in two starts at Leicester. He has proven a mudlark over middle distances at the Midlands track, but the step up to 3m here promises to suit too. This is a thorough test of stamina at this stage of a horse’s career and is not always won by the classiest runner in the field, but the pluckiest. As such, it would be a surprise if Ubatuba were not able to outbattle the majority of his rivals here.

14:40 Haydock Park Albert Bartlett Prestige Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race)
