Andrew Mount bagged an 11/8 winner on Thursday and he has a brace of selections for the racing on Friday 4th September. He heads to Ascot and Kilbeggan for his best bets of the day, as he looks to bag a profitable day.
Ascot Racing Tips (Friday 4 September 2026)
It’s a 1.55pm start for Ascot’s seven-race card, but you have to wait until the 4.48pm contest for Andrew’s best bet on the card.
4.48 Ascot – Arctic Thunder (1pt win – 15-2 bet365, 7/1 general)
Arctic Thunder struggled to stay one mile when with Andrew Balding, but he did run with credit over that trip, including a 40-1 ninth of 29 to Mickley in the 2024 Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. The switch to Ed Walker and a gelding operation resulted in a blank 2025 season when he was campaigned exclusively over 6f-7f but his career has taken off since returned to a mile this term, keeping on well down the outside from a poor wide draw when mid-division at Kempton in late June before turf wins at Salisbury (by seven lengths) and Haydock. He recorded a good time for his latest victory and two-and-a-half-length runner-up Inspired franked the form when scoring at Goodwood on his next outing. Aside from 2024 Britannia ninth, Arctic Thunder’s only other Ascot run saw him win over 7f and he can complete his hat-trick today. The forecast headwind is good news, as his come-from-behind style will be an asset.
Kilbeggan Racing Tips (Friday 4 September 2026)
There’s National Hunt action at Kilbeggan, with Andrew opting for an eye-catching double-figured priced selection in the 5.45pm race.
5.45 Kilbeggan – Sound Judgement (1pt win – 11/1 generally)
Point winner Sound Judgement improved for cheekpieces and the step up to three miles for the first time under Rules when scoring at Cork in July and her subsequent defeat in a Roscommon handicap hurdle can be forgiven as she raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail. Gordon Elliott’s six-year-old was beaten by just over 18 lengths into an 11-2 sixth of 15 that day but it was actually a good effort given the strong track bias, favouring those who raced wide. She finished just three-quarters of a length behind fourth-placed Knocknagoran Lady, the 7-2 favourite, who also took the inside rail route and that one scored easily at odds of 8-1 at Down Royal last week when a bet for this column. Her yard could be in better form, but she’s till worth a punt at double-figure odds.
