Ascot Racing Tips - Winter Million Festival Day 2 Best Bets - Saturday 17 January

Day 2 of the Berkshire Winter Million Festival heads to Ascot on Saturday 17 January, with the feature race on the card being the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase. There’s also some competitive handicaps featuring on the card as well, and our in-house tipster Steve Chambers picks out his best Ascot racing tips for a sparkling afternoon of quality jumps action.

Ascot Racing Tips (Saturday 17 January 2026)

Kicking off at 12.25pm, Ascot’s seven-race card will conclude at 4.05pm and there’s set to be some hugely competitive racing taking place all day at the iconic Berkshire track.

1.00 Ascot – Laganhill (1pt win – 13/2)

Welcom To Cartries and The Jukebox Kid set the standard in the 1.00pm at Ascot, but both have risen in the weights in recent times and could be vulnerable to one further down the weights in a trappy betting heat. Henry Daly’s Laganhill is the one that could upset that aforementioned pair, as he’s only had two runs over fences, but was last seen finishing an excellent second at Bangor. Remaining on the same mark of 126 for this contest, he will relish the likely softish going at Ascot, and the slight drop back in trip for this event should be a positive as well. He will need a career best to land the prize, but with more improvement to come he could well taste his first success over fences.

2.20 Ascot – Vincenzo (1pt win – 9/4)

Runner-up in both the Paddy Power Gold Cup and December Gold Cup at Cheltenham, Vincenzo can finally get his head in front in the 2.20pm at Ascot. The Sam Thomas-trained eight-year-old has been a real model of consistency in recent outings and has two wins and four second placed finishes to his name from his last six outings. He’s been given a 1lb rise for that recent Cheltenham run, so a mark of 140 for this contest still looks attractive. The likes of Bad and Etalon should pose the biggest danger, but they certainly lack the consistency of Vincenzo, who can get his name in lights here.

2.53 Ascot – Came From Nowhere (1pt win – 3/1)

A non-runner in last weekend’s Lanzarote Hurdle, Came From Nowhere will line up in the Holloway’s Handicap Hurdle at 2.53pm, and looks every bit capable of landing the victory. The Champion Hurdle-winning pair of Jeremy Scott and Lorcan Williams will unleash the progressive seven-year-old, who won well at Hereford last time out and looked like there’s a lot more to come over hurdles. He’s been given a 7lbs rise for that success, but he excelled on the soft ground that day, and there could be similar underfoot conditions here. Not out of the first three in all his six starts, he’s shown he can continually perform to a high level and he can make it back-to-back wins in an intriguing renewal.
