Ascot & Wincanton Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Saturday 14 February

A busy Saturday of racing has up to four feature meetings depending on where you look. Graded contests occur at a quartet of venues across Britain and Ireland.

Andrew Mount sticks to two of the domestic meetings on Saturday for his best bets. he has four selections across the cards at Ascot and Wincanton for you to follow.

Ascot Racing Tips (Saturday 14 February 2026)

Ascot’s meeting on Saturday is the feature of the week. Andrew has three selections on the card, all of which can be backed at double-figure prices.

2.25 Ascot – Hurricane Bay (0.5pt e/w – 33/1 generally)

First the bad news – Hurricane Bay has yet to win on soft/heavy going or in a big field. However, there are plenty of positives about Lucy Wadham’s ten-year-old and she’s worth a small bet in the first-time visor. At the time of writing her trainer had struck with four of her last eight winners and jockey Tom Cannon had won on seven of his last 11 rides. He pulled up in Donnacha’s race at Cheltenham last time but will be happier back over hurdles and his trainer has a useful recent record with chase to hurdle switchers, scoring with seven of the 24 qualifiers since the beginning of 2016 for a profit of £28.75. In the same period Wadham’s first-time visored runners are six from 25 for a profit of £16.25.

14:25 Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race)

3.00 Ascot – Threeunderthrufive (0.5pt e/w – 11/1 bet365, four places) & Sam Brown (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 bet365 and Sky Bet, both four places)

Nine of the last ten winners of this 3m handicap chase had prepped in another Class 1 contest and backing all 44 qualifiers returned a profit of £23.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Plenty of the beaten horses ran well in defeat and the five qualifiers in 2021 included the first four home at 10-1, 12-1, 11-1 and 33-1 (the other unseated at 25-1).

There’s no guaranteed that the pattern will continue but there are only three qualifiers this year – likely favourite Joyeux Machin, 14-year-old Sam Brown and 2024 winner Threeunderthrufive. I’m happy to leave the favourite alone as he fell at Doncaster last time where the fences are easier to jump than at Ascot and will play each-way on the other pair. Threeunderthrufive also ran second by a nose in this race 12 months ago and, while the ground is slower than he prefers, his trainer is in fine form and he’s worth a small interest. Sam Brown is well into the veteran stage but plenty of old boys have won well in this race before, including 13-year-old Regal Encore who was beaten by a head in 2021. The first four home that year were aged 10, 13, 8 and 12 and it was a similar story in 2020 (10, 11, 12 and 11). The top weight tends to cone good at this time of year, with seven wins from 16 runs from January to March for a profit of £17.78 to a £1 level stake at SP (he has won outside of this period but not by much 0 December 18th and April 9th).

15:00 Betfair Swinley Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)

Wincanton Racing Tips (Saturday 14 February 2026)

Wincanton’s meeting features the Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle, although Andrew’s selection runs in the penultimate contest.

4.00 Wincanton – Concetto (0.5pt e/w – 10/1 bet365)

Jockey Robbie Dunne has a fine record in staying handicap chases (distances of 3m+), riding 52 winners from 385 mounts for a profit of £50.43 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£139.31 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). His latest winner on this angle came at Market Rasen last month where he rode Kaycee Dutton for the Pogsons, who scored by two and three-quarter lengths from Sam Allwood’s Concetto (30 lengths back to the third), and it’s interesting to see him on board the runner-up this afternoon. The nine-year-old can usually be relied upon to run his race at this time of year, recording form figures from January until early April of 1121515232 (4-10) for a profit of £10.75 and he should prove effective at today’s venue.
