Three horse racing fixtures take place on Sunday 5th July, with the action coming from Ayr, Market Rasen and Southwell. Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers focuses on the first two of those meetings and picks out four bets to make up a GG Lucky 15.
Ayr Racing Tips (Sunday 5 July 2026)
Seven races make up Ayr’s flat card on Sunday, with a 2.11pm start. We have two selections across the action at the Scottish racecourse.
3.15 Ayr – Altareq (1pt win – )
Winless in seven starts, Altareq has been placed in the first three in five of those runs, so has shown some ability on the track. Jim Goldie’s charge can finally break his maiden tag on Sunday in the 3.15pm race. Having been slowly away on his last outing, he managed to stay on well for third place. Now, lining up off the same mark of 83 for this event he can deliver a damaging blow to his rivals, if he avoids a tardy start. He will have top weight to carry, but plenty of his rivals have been showing little of late, so Altareq can make it eighth time lucky.
5.00 Ayr – Celeborn (1pt win – )
Billy Loughnane will done the Classic-winning and multiple Group 1-winning silks of Bow Echo in the 5.00pm at Ayr, as he partners George Boughey’s Celeborn. Three wins from six starts has propelled the son of Postponed to a mark of 89 and he can add another victory to his CV here. He failed to land a blow in a hugely competitive Epsom handicap on his last outing, but prior to that he ran well to finish fifth at Newbury off a mark of 90. He will have top weight, so needs to deliver once again, but the deadly combination of Loughnane and Boughey can strike gold once again.
Market Rasen Racing Tips (Sunday 5 July 2026)
It’s a 1.50pm start for Market Rasen’s National Hunt fixture, with four hurdle races, two chases and a bumper taking place.
3.25 Market Rasen – Matoury (1pt win – )
Mike Sowersby’s Matoury edged out Dan Skelton’s Muskerry Rock by a short head a few weeks ago at Market Rasen, and the former is back to try and land back-to-back wins at the track. He’s been given a 6lbs rise for that success, but the pair pulled eight lengths clear of the rest of the field that day, so he could be capable of going in again. Plenty line up with a notable chance here, with Jack The Savage coming into the event on the back of a win. However, Matoury has some excellent course form and can shine brightest here.
4.35 Market Rasen – Queen’s Wish (1pt win – )
Runner-up at Uttoxeter on her last start, Queen’s Wish can go one better in the 4.35pm at Market Rasen. She has been tumbling down the handicap mark in recent outings, but having been dropped to 95, which was her last winning mark, she ran an adequate race to grab the silver medal last time. She’s been given a real chance by the handicapper as she’s been dropped 1lb for that run, so lines up off 94 here. Lots will have to fall right for her in this trappy betting heat, but she’s very attractively handicapped now to run a big race.
