Ayr Racing Tips (Tuesday 13 January 2026)
Ayr’s is the only jumps card on Tuesday, as our tips among the seven races come in a novice hurdle and a competitive class 4 handicap.
12.48 Ayr – Next Twist (1pt win – 2/1)
His form in bumpers and on hurdling debut was nothing to shout about, but Next Twist looked to have learned how to race seriously next time out. His sixth on his hurdles bow was respectable at Stratford, but he readily overturned the form with the runner-up form that day to easily score at Southwell under a more positive ride from Sean Bowen at the end of November. His best run in two bumpers came on soft ground at Ffos Las, so he should be fine racing on heavy going here at Ayr and if he can continue that level of improvement, he looks capable of defying a penalty.
3.18 Ayr – Two Auld Pals (1pt win – 9/1)
Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore had the choice of two runners to take 10lb off with Gregor Walkingshaw’s claim and they opted for Two Auld Pals, who is also 2lb below his last winning mark. The presence of 13-year-old stablemate Thereisnodubt at the top of the handicap only drops him a further 1lb down the weights which could prove a deliberate tactic here at Ayr. The eight-year-old has mostly maintained his form since last winning over hurdles, winning on the flat at Hamilton in June on good, but he has won on soft and heavy before too, while he was third on his hurdles return at Kelso in October. The return to softer ground and Walkingshaw’s claim can both be factors in a revival of his best hurdles form here.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Tuesday 13 January 2026)
Newcastle’s all-weather card on Tuesday boasts seven races too, with our two tips running in the maiden stakes and the 0-80 handicap.
2.38 Newcastle – Maria De Silva (1pt win – 9/2)
Her form figures to date look weak, but Maria De Silva is up to winning at this level based on her Lingfield run at the beginning of December. The daughter of Showcasing was pitched into a £150,000 auction event on debut at Newmarket and Balding, who has been successful in similar races, only ran two, suggesting he felt this filly could take the race in her stride. She was well-beaten that day, but held her own next time out on the all-weather before Christmas when not quite seeing out the 1m trip. Back to 7f in what should be a weaker contest, she can land the spoils.
3.40 Newcastle – Bowood (1pt win – 9/2)
Two wins over course and distance in the autumn were a significant revival of Bowood’s form as he had previously plummeted 18lb down the handicap. Conditions obviously suit him here though, as he won by 4½ lengths off a mark of 64 under Elle-May Croot, before following up under the same jockey, and today’s rider, 11 days later. He also won emphatically that day under a penalty before a 9lb rise and the switch to Southwell ensured he could not complete the hat-trick. Back at Newcastle and refreshed from a break, he can win again off top-weight.
