Ayr Racing Tips (Monday 1 December 2025)

A seven-race card takes place at Ayr on Monday and Andrew Mount heads to the 2.15pm race for his best bet on the afternoon at the Scottish track.

2.15 Ayr – Forest Blaze (1pt win – 3/1 bet365)

Forest Blaze won twice at Hexham last term but failed to live up to market expectations at that venue on last month’s reappearance, finishing a 16-length fifth of ten as the 5-2 favourite. Fitness was probably an issue that day – it was his first start since mid-April – and the extended 2m7f trip was further than ideal (both his wins came at 2m4f). He drops in distance to 2m3.5f today and the first-time cheekpieces are an interesting addition. Mark Walford is six from 27 when using this headgear over hurdles (+£31.50 to a £1 level stake at SP).

Plumpton Racing Tips (Monday 1 December 2025)

There’s seven races over the sticks on the south coast at Plumpton, with some competitive handicaps taking place during the afternoon.

2.35 Plumpton – American Sniper (1pt win – 16/1 bet365)

David Pipe’s inmates have generally been needing their reappearance runs this term and, since the beginning of October, he’s 0-18 with handicappers returning from a break of 150 days or longer. Only four of those 18 runners (prior to Activist’s run in the 1.35 at Leicester on Sunday) have had a second outing, and they all performed with credit – Neon Moon won at Ascot (4-1), Gold In The Rivers finished third at Lingfield (13-2), Pachacuti ran third at Ffos Las (8-1) and Punta Del Este kept on to finish fifth at Exeter (25-1). American Sniper finished well beaten behind French Ship at Cheltenham on his reappearance but always needs a run or two before reaching his peak and, since undergoing wind surgery prior to his 2022/23 comeback, his record second or third time out stands at 110191 (4-6). It’s possible that he’ll need another run but he’s worth chancing this afternoon. I’ll be saving on Grenadier Jed, who impressed at Fontwell when completing his hat-trick last time.

Wolverhampton Racing Tips (Monday 1 December 2025)

Nine all-weather contests feature on Wolverhampton’s Monday card and there are some tough handicap puzzles for punters to work out.

7.30 Wolverhampton – The Cola Kid (1pt win – 100/30 bet365) & Sedgemoor (1pt win – 5/1 bet365)

The Cola Kid (stall 1 of 12) was taken on for the early lead by Red Walls in division two of the 6f Class 6 handicap at Wolverhampton last Tuesday and did well to finish a close second after seeing off that rival, who faded into eighth place. The winner, third, fourth, fifth and sixth all came from midfield or further back and the Grace Harris-trained veteran looks interesting over an extra furlong at the same venue tonight. His sole rival for the early lead looks to be Desert Footsteps and she’s hardly beaten a horse on her last four starts, finding sixth of nine, 11 of 11, tenth of ten and tenth of 12 by a combined margin of almost 84 lengths.

The main danger is likely to be John Butler’s Sedgemoor (stall 3) who has been generously dropped another 3lb for his 11th of 14 over this trip at Lingfield earlier this month. The four-year-old was switched to raced in the ‘swamp’ by 3lb claimer Connor Planas on the inside rail after missing the break and never got competitive. Since leaving Richard Hannon the gelding has been dropped 11lb and I’m expecting better under Stevie Donohoe tonight, especially if strong in the market.
