Five meetings bring us into the midweek in racing. The jumps take a break, with the entire quintet of cards occurring on the flat this Wednesday.
GG tipster Joe Napier sticks to the British action through the afternoon, with our lucky 15 tips coming from Bath and Hamilton.
Bath Racing Tips (Wednesday 2 September)
Bath host an eight-race card on Wednesday fit with some Dolly Parton inspired race names. Hoping it’s all taking and no giving to the bookies, we have two lucky 15 selections at the meeting.
4.00 Bath – Fram Castle (1pt win – 5/2)
Though far from a prolific winner, Fram Castle is a strong stayer and is on a competitive mark. The five-year-old recorded his first career success at Kempton last season off a mark of 54. That win came on the all-weather, but he has produced as many good performances on turf. Since joining Michael Wigham at the start of this season, he has shaped like winning again, finishing a short head section at Lingfield over 2m, then third at Newmarket over this trip of 1m6f. His Lingfield run saw him finish seven lengths clear of the third. He is only 2lb higher here and still 2lb below his only winning rating. Another win is likely when stamina is thoroughly tested, which it could well be.
5.02 Bath – Asset (1pt win – 5/2)
A greater test of stamina should also suit Asset for Sir Mark Prescott. A steady improver in novice company, the Wootton Bassett filly got off the mark at Pontefract over 1m in July. She went up to 1m2f for her handicap debut at Lingfield, running well in a competitive race. The form has taken a couple of knocks, but is unlikely to work out that poorly overall. Asset should improve on that anyway upped another furlong-and-a-half in distance. Up just 1lb in the handicap too, and able to compete off bottom-weight here, she could prove too progressive.
Hamilton Racing Tips (Wednesday 2 September)
A class 2 nursery series final headlines Hamilton’s seven-race card. Our other two lucky 15 tips run at the Scottish track.
5.50 Hamilton – Clocker (1pt win – 5/4)
Perseus Way has the class to win this off top-weight, but Clocker has untapped potential. Ed Bethell’s charge has won two of her last three races. They have been in small fields, but have demonstrated her ability. She won off 62 at Hamilton, then finished a neck second before scoring again last time out at Ripon off 65. She is up another 3lb here, but has enjoyed racing over middle distances. She has showed she stays 1m4f well and an extra furlong here can suit even better. The selection can find the requisite improvement to win again.
6.20 Hamilton – Battle Fever (1pt win – 6/5)
Top-weight Battle Fever concedes 10lb and more all-round here. However, his form is far superior to his rivals and he can prove why he is the class act. Kevin Ryan’s runner was disappointing on his one run at Hamilton so far. However, he faced a useful winner, then won next time out at Thirsk. He saved the best until most recently when a game second behind Group 1 winner Sun Goddess in the sales race at York. He took a 7lb hit for that run, but beat plenty of his rivals. It also proved he coped with cut in the surface, which could also prove crucial.
