The 2025 Betfair Chase has attracted a select five-runner field, but the contest looks packed with storylines. There is a hat-trick seeker, an Irish challenger and Britain’s two leading Gold Cup hopes, as well as an up-and-coming second season chaser, all of whom are very feasible players for this competitive Grade 1. We run through all of the key info, with the racecard, trends and our tips for the Betfair Chase all available below.
2025 Betfair Chase Racecard
The headline-makers will be hoping Royale Pagaille can rack up a hat-trick in this race at the grand age of 11, though his Haydock invincibility took a hit towards the end of last term. Britain’s two biggest Gold Cup hopes oppose him, with Grey Dawning looking to go one better than last year, while Haiti Couleurs is the emerging force, having won on his return over hurdles, as well as the National Hunt Chase and Irish Grand National last term. Another new face in open Grade 1s is Handstands, a Grade 1-winning novice chaser last season who also has a run under his belt, while Gordon Elliott sends former Albert Bartlett hero and Brown Advisory runner-up Stellar Story across from Ireland.

Haiti CouleursBetfair Chase Trends
- Five horses have won this more than once in the 20 runnings – this is a good race for repeat winners
- Only two eight-year-olds have won the Betfair Chase in its history, an unusually low number for that age group
- Only one of the six Irish raiders has won this in the last decade
- The last ten winners had all either won at Haydock over fences before, or never raced there over fences
Betfair Chase Tips
Previously so supreme over track and trip, Royale Pagaille lost his Haydock mojo earlier this year and looks too long in the tooth for his hat-trick attempt. This is a highly competitive renewal though with all three eight-year-olds in with a great shout of bucking the unusual trend against them in the Betfair Chase. Narrow preference is for HAITI COULEURS, with race fitness on his side and conditions likely to bring his stamina into play. Grey Dawning should go well again, although he may get stuck in the mud in this trickier renewal than 12 months ago and the main danger may emerge from Stellar Story, an Albert Bartlett winner on heavy who may be going under the radar having been second in last season’s Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham. Handstands is not ruled out either though potentially has the most to prove from a stamina perspective.
