Beverley & Newbury Racing Tips - Joe Napier's Lucky 15 Tips for Tuesday 23 June

With Wednesday’s racing cancelled, Tuesday’s cards are set to be the hottest of the week. With scorching weather scheduled, quick ground is a certainty across the board.

Ahead of summer racing action, GG tipster Joe Napier has analysed the Tuesday flat cards, and has Lucky 15 tips across the meetings from Beverley and Newbury.

Beverley Racing Tips (Tuesday 23 June)

Seven races take place at Beverley on Tuesday, with our tips both running in handicap company on the card.

2.45 Beverley – Roaring Ralph (1pt win – 4/1)

There are a few too many mixed signals in the form of the unexposed Midsummer Storm. Karl Burke’s three-year-old was an expensive purchase for Wathnan Racing and may easily find this handicap debut to his liking. However, where he is uncertain to defy a rating of 74 at this stage, Roaring Ralph is demonstrably ahead of his mark and in superb form. Having won just four of his first 38 races, he has now claimed five of his last six. He has shot back up the ratings as a result, but for good reason. Michael Dods has placed him well, as this is just eight days on from his last success at Wetherby, and ensures he gets to race off the same mark without a penalty. 7½f at this trip on quick ground should suit and he sets a high benchmark.

4.17 Beverley – Mao Shang Wong (1pt win – 8/1)

Both Helmsley and Qitaal average a victory every 12 races, so the fact they dominate the early betting to the extent they do suggests there must be good value elsewhere. That pair’s recent good form can be questioned too. A chance is taken on Mao Shang Wong, who is two from four on turf. Both of those wins came at this trip of 1m2f. The first was at Doncaster in March, the most recent over track and trip at the end of May. He is 3lb higher than for that win and was never well-positioned at York most recently. However, the betting has overreacted to that weaker effort. In a much smaller field, he could still be well-treated on grass, so although jockey bookings suggest he is the second string, he can go well.

Newbury Racing Tips (Tuesday 23 June)

Newbury also host a seven-race meeting on Tuesday. For their evening card, we have two top tips.

5.50 Newbury – Sequel Star (1pt win – 6/1)

Chilli sets the form standard, but it is not an imposing one. As such, Sequel Star has been found a novice event in which she can score on debut. Ed Walker’s filly may be unraced, but she could easily possess the pedigree to prosper. By the speedy Cotai Glory, her dam reached a mark of 92 and won as a juvenile. Said dam is a sister to Group 1 heroine Champers Elysees, another precocious enough type before excelling at three. Walker has sent out three two-year-old winners at a higher strike rate than his average too. Therefore, many factors suggest she will compete first time out.

17:50 BetVictor 100/1 On England Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes (Bands B, C And D) (GBB Race) (Div II)

8.05 Newbury – Baileys Khelstar (1pt win – 3/1)

Baileys Khelstar has been unfortunate to bump into two well-treated types the last twice. Both were trained by James Owen, with the selections recent conqueror, Sixpack, going on to win by seven lengths next time out. Baileys Khelstar was just a length-and-a-half behind, suggesting there must be a win in him soon. 2m suits, as shown when he won at Ascot in May 2024. It has taken Charlie Johnston some time to build him back to form this year, after he missed 618 days between July 2024 and this April. He looks to have done that now and even though Almuhit is 1lb lower than his last winning mark, it is the son of Cloth Of Stars who appeals most.
