13:52 – Book Attraction Restaurant Online Restricted Maiden Stakes (Bands B, C And D) (GBB Race)

Race Details: 1m 1f | Class 4 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly interesting restricted maiden rather than a deep one, and the market has probably got the main players right. Cape Fear sets the standard among those with experience after shaping well when third on his return, while Three No Trumps also brings a solid bit of placed form and looks the obvious danger. Al Maslool has had three goes and may still have more to offer for William Haggas, but he does need to find a bit more than the bare figures suggest. The unknowns are the debutants, with Fighter’s Spirit and It’s Debatable the most intriguing on paper, but in a race like this proven ability at the trip can count for plenty. Tactics and improvement are likely to decide it more than raw class.

Top Selections

1. Cape Fear – 5/2 with Bet365

Jockey: P J McDonald | Trainer: Andrew Balding | Form: 5-3 | Rating: 77 | Topspeed: 63

Cape Fear is the one I want on side. He improved from his debut fifth to finish third on his reappearance, and that latest run suggested this step up to 1m1f could be exactly what he wants. From stall 1 he should get a sensible trip round Beverley, and Balding’s youngsters often come forward nicely from run to run at this stage of the season. He doesn’t have bundles in hand on the figures, but he sets a reliable standard in a race where several rivals are guessing games. At 5/2, he makes plenty of appeal as the likeliest winner if progressing again. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Three No Trumps – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: Ed Dunlop | Form: 3-5 | Rating: 78 | Topspeed: 67

Three No Trumps looks the value angle if you want an each-way play. He posted a useful Topspeed figure of 67 already, which is a perfectly respectable number in this company, and his form of 3-5 suggests he has enough ability to be involved again. The slight concern is whether he finds quite enough improvement to win outright, but this doesn’t look packed with hardened maiden performers and Rossa Ryan is a notable booking. Drawn 4, he should have every chance of being ridden positively or slotted in where comfortable. At 4/1, he appeals as the solid alternative to the favourite. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Cape Fear is the straight win bet given he brings the most convincing recent form and should appreciate this extra furlong. Three No Trumps is the each-way option in an eight-runner field, with his existing speed figure making him look a fair bet to hit the frame. The obvious danger is Al Maslool, while any strong support for the newcomers, especially Fighter’s Spirit, would be worth noting.

14:22 – Racing To School Reaches 25 Years Restricted Novice Stakes (Bands B, C & D) (GBB/IRE Incentive Race)

Race Details: 5f | Class 5 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a lively little juvenile novice rather than a deep one, and the one piece of solid form on the page belongs to Lauralynn. She already has a run under her belt, finishing third, and that experience counts for plenty in these sharp 5f Beverley dashes where green horses can get found out quickly. Matteo, Beautiful Rainbow and Half A Hoof are the interesting newcomers from yards well capable of readying one first time, while Arrbob at least has seen a racecourse, albeit he was well beaten on debut. The low draw for Beautiful Rainbow catches the eye round here, but Lauralynn sets the standard on what we know. It is not an impossible puzzle, though first-time-out juveniles always add a layer of guesswork.

Top Selections

1. Lauralynn – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Zak Wheatley | Trainer: Declan Carroll | Form: 3 | Rating: 75 | Topspeed: 56

Lauralynn is the obvious starting point because she is the one runner who has already shown a fair level of ability. A rating of 75 and Topspeed of 56 put her clear of the exposed pair, and in a race full of unraced juveniles that is a very useful edge. She also gets in here with just 125, which does no harm at all. Declan Carroll’s youngsters can be streetwise enough after an initial outing, and this stiff 5f should suit one who has already learned what the job entails. At 7/2, she is hardly a giveaway, but she still makes plenty of appeal as the percentage call. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Beautiful Rainbow – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: James Tate | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

If you want to side with a debutante, Beautiful Rainbow is the one I would rather be with. James Tate is more than capable of producing a sharp 2yo, and the booking of Rossa Ryan suggests she is expected to know her job. Draw 1 could be a real asset at Beverley over the minimum trip, especially if she breaks on terms and can hold a handy pitch from the outset. The market has her firmly among the principals and 4/1 looks fair enough in a race where several rivals are complete unknowns. She does not need to be spectacular first time out to hit the frame, so she makes plenty of sense as the each-way play. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Lauralynn is the solid win bet because she brings the best established form and that experience can be decisive in an early-season juvenile novice. Beautiful Rainbow appeals as the each-way option from a good draw with a strong jockey booking. Matteo is the obvious danger on stable reputation and market position, while Half A Hoof is another newcomer worth keeping an eye on if strong in the betting.

14:52 – Happy Birthday Andy Hill Handicap

Race Details: 5f | Class 4 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper sharp 5f handicap rather than a penalty kick, with several arriving on the back of solid enough efforts and not much between them on official figures. Trilby and Ventura Express head the market for obvious reasons, while I’m Next has the recent comeback run that says he could still have a bit more to offer as a 4yo. Fuji Mountain is another who comes here in form and is dangerously well treated on topspeed, especially from a handy low draw. Beverley’s minimum trip can reward those who break and travel, so draw and track position will matter plenty. It looks a tricky puzzle rather than a strong race, but there are angles into it if you’re prepared to oppose the obvious favourite.

Top Selections

1. I’m Next

Jockey: David Allan | Trainer: Tim Easterby | Form: 2198-2 | Rating: 93 | Topspeed: 85

He makes most appeal on the back of that recent second, which suggested he’d returned in good order and is ready to strike off the same mark. A rating of 93 asks a question in a race this tight, but he’s only a 4yo and looks one of the few in here with scope to improve again rather than merely hold his level. David Allan is a positive booking around this track and, if he can get him into a rhythm early from stall 8, I’d expect a bold showing. In a race where plenty have chances, he’s the one with the most persuasive recent piece of form.

Bet: WIN

2. Fuji Mountain – 10/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Zak Wheatley | Trainer: Declan Carroll | Form: 835-02 | Rating: 90 | Topspeed: 87

At the prices, Fuji Mountain looks the each-way play. He shaped well when second last time and that Topspeed figure of 87 is the best in the field, which immediately makes him interesting in a race likely to be decided by fractions. Drawn in 3 and carrying only 124, he has the sort of profile that can be very effective over Beverley’s flying five if getting a clean break. Declan Carroll’s runner isn’t bombproof, but 10/1 feels a touch dismissive given he’s only 4, arrives in form and has fewer miles on the clock than some of these exposed sprint handicappers.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

I’d play this with I’m Next as the main win bet after that encouraging reappearance, which hinted he’s ready to cash in. Fuji Mountain is the each-way punt at double-figure odds, with his low draw, light weight and strong topspeed making him very appealing for a place at least. Trilby and Ventura Express are the obvious dangers if the race unfolds neatly for them.

15:22 – Alan McGuinness And Robin Lunness Memorial Handicap

Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper spring handicap rather than a gimme, with several arriving off breaks and a few last-time-out winners asked to prove they can back it up under different circumstances. Milteye sets the standard on official figures after winning on reappearance and is the obvious starting point, while Frostmagic also comes here on the back of a victory and still looks like a horse going the right way. Lord Roxby and Nyman have enough ability to get involved if tuned up first time, and the low-weight Tropez Power is interesting if the old spark is still there. Beverley’s 7f can reward track position and balance, so draw and race sharpness may matter as much as raw ratings. Tricky, yes, but not impossible to solve.

Top Selections

1. Frostmagic – 4/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Tom Marquand | Trainer: Ismail Mohammed | Form: 239-21 | Rating: 89 | Topspeed: 48

Frostmagic makes plenty of appeal in a race where a few of the market principals may already be a bit exposed. He shaped well when runner-up on his return and then did the job properly last time, suggesting this 4yo is still progressing rather than merely holding form. An opening mark in the high 80s does not look punitive for a horse who seems to be learning his trade, and the booking of Tom Marquand catches the eye in a race that should need some tactical nous. At 4/1, he is not being missed, but he still looks the one with the most upside. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Tropez Power – 20/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Rhys Elliott | Trainer: Mark Walford | Form: 60456- | Rating: 92 | Topspeed: 90

Tropez Power is exactly the sort who makes sense as an each-way dart in this kind of handicap. His recent form figures do not leap off the page, but the handicapper has relented and that Topspeed mark of 90 reminds you there is still plenty of back class lurking. He comes in here carrying just 122, which is a notable edge against rivals lumping much bigger weights, and if Beverley’s turning 7f becomes a proper scrap late on, that could count for plenty. He is not one to trust blindly, but at 20/1 he looks overpriced for a stable capable of readying one after a break. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Frostmagic is the win play because he arrives with the strongest progressive profile and may still be ahead of his mark. Tropez Power is the each-way option at a big price, with the feather weight giving him a sporting chance of nicking a place. Milteye is the obvious danger after that reappearance win, while Lord Roxby is another who would not surprise if fit enough first time out.

15:52 – Rapid Lad Handicap

Race Details: 1m 4f | Class 5 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This is a tight little 1m4f handicap rather than a deep one, and it looks the sort of race where track position and timing will matter as much as raw ability. Roland Garros arrives off a win and is an obvious player, while Iwantmytimewithyou shaped well on his return and still looks capable of better as a 4yo. Naval Tribute has a recent success on the page too, but his latest run took a bit of the shine off. Lower down the weights, Freddy Robinson is interesting if this race is run to suit, and Kitsune Power is well enough treated to get involved. Beverley can catch a few out, though, and in a seven-runner field there should be no hiding place. Tricky enough, but not impossible to unpick.

Top Selections

1. Iwantmytimewithyou – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: Ed Dunlop | Form: 1557-2 | Rating: 83 | Topspeed: 71

He makes plenty of appeal here. His reappearance second suggested he has come back in good order, and for a 4yo in this grade there is still the possibility that his mark of 83 does not quite have him pinned down. He gets in with just 131 and stall 1 should allow Rossa Ryan to secure a sensible position in what may not be a strongly-run race. There are solid yardsticks in here, but not many with obvious upside, and that gives him the edge for me. Available at 7/2, he looks the one with the most persuasive mix of current form and potential. Bet: WIN

2. Freddy Robinson – 11/2 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Ben Robinson | Trainer: Brian Ellison | Form: 337-64 | Rating: 83 | Topspeed: 77

He is the each-way angle in a race where plenty can be given a chance. Freddy Robinson is not thrown in, but he has slipped to a workable racing weight of 123 and his recent efforts have not been devoid of promise. The Topspeed figure of 77 stacks up perfectly well in this company and, in a small field, Ben Robinson should have options from draw 2 rather than being forced to make his move early. He does need things to fall right, but 11/2 is fair enough for a horse who looks capable of nicking a place at the very least and could do better still if this turns tactical. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Iwantmytimewithyou is the win play, chiefly because his comeback run hinted at a bit more to come and this does not look an especially strong Class 5. Freddy Robinson is the each-way punt at a backable price with a handy weight. Main dangers? Roland Garros is respected after his latest win, while Naval Tribute has enough on his better form to be a threat if bouncing back.

16:22 – Connexin’s ‘No Lagging Behind’ Handicap (Div I)

Race Details: 1m | Class 6 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary Class 6 mile, but it is not lacking in angles. No Knee Never comes here on the back of a win and has obvious claims from stall 1, while Tees George brings solid recent form and the best Topspeed figure in the field. Maple is interesting after a pair of runner-up efforts, though the market may have latched on to that already, and old boy Copper And Five has become dangerously well treated if bouncing back from a quiet reappearance. Beverley can reward those who travel and handle the track, so draw and positioning will matter. It is not a deep race, but it is competitive enough beneath the favourite, and there could easily be more value in opposing the head of the market each-way than piling into a short one.

Top Selections

1. Tees George – 5/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Jack Nicholls | Trainer: Adrian Nicholls | Form: 527-34 | Rating: 76 | Topspeed: 64

Tees George makes plenty of appeal in a race where the favourite does not look bombproof at odds-on-to-2/1 territory. He is now back on the same mark as No Knee Never, but his recent efforts read well for this grade, particularly that latest fourth, and his Topspeed figure of 64 is the best on offer here. Drawn in 3, he should get a sensible position, and this looks the sort of race Adrian Nicholls’ runner can make his presence felt in. At 5/1, he is a fair price rather than a flashy one, but he has the profile of a reliable handicapper ready to strike. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Copper And Five – 7/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Joanna Mason | Trainer: Ruth Carr | Form: 4464-0 | Rating: 75 | Topspeed: 66

You do not get rich backing ten-year-olds blind, but Copper And Five is well capable of outrunning his price in this company. His reappearance duck can be forgiven if he needed it, and the bigger point is that he still retains enough ability to figure off 75, especially with a field-low weight of 125. That Topspeed of 66 is actually the highest in the lineup, which tells you the ability is still there when things drop right. Joanna Mason is a positive booking for a horse who can travel into races, and 7/1 makes him the one I would want on side for an each-way punt in a race lacking depth. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Tees George is the win play at around 5/1, chiefly because he brings solid recent handicap form and the strongest speed credentials. For an each-way alternative, Copper And Five looks overpriced given his mark and historical figures. No Knee Never is the obvious danger from the inside draw, while Maple is another with place claims if continuing her recent revival.

16:52 – Connexin’s ‘No Lagging Behind’ Handicap (Div II)

Race Details: 1m | Class 6 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This doesn’t look a deep Class 6 by any means, but it is the sort of mile handicap where a decent draw, a clean break and a bit of tactical speed could make all the difference. Hashtagnotions and Glitter Code are the obvious pair at the head of the market, and both arrive with bits of form that make sense in a race of this nature. Bizarre Law is interesting off the foot of the weights after shaping a little better last time, while Coolree has slipped to a mark that gives him a squeak if bouncing back. Hostelry is well drawn in stall 1 but needs to leave two quiet runs behind. All told, this is more trappy than classy, and siding with the runners who still look feasibly treated makes most appeal.

Top Selections

1. Glitter Code – 10/3 with Bet365

Jockey: Connor Beasley | Trainer: Edward Bethell | Form: 53429- | Rating: 73 | Topspeed: 67

Glitter Code looks the solid option in a race where plenty have questions to answer. He signed off last season with a sequence of respectable efforts, including a second, and that level of consistency stands out in this company. An opening mark of 73 doesn’t look harsh for a 4yo who may still have a bit more to offer, and Connor Beasley is exactly the sort you want around Beverley when track position matters. At 10/3 with Bet365, he isn’t being missed, but this is the one runner in the field who makes plenty of sense on profile, current ability and stable strength. He holds strong claims if ready enough after the break. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Bizarre Law – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Joanna Mason | Trainer: Michael Herrington | Form: 0-0093 | Rating: 70 | Topspeed: 39

Bizarre Law is the each-way angle because last time’s third hinted that he might just be coming to the boil after a quiet start to the campaign. He’s down to 70 now and carries only 121, which is a notable help around this turning mile, especially if Joanna Mason can keep him handy from stall 3. The bare topspeed figure is uninspiring, so he’s hardly bombproof, but this is not a race stacked with reliable finishers and he doesn’t need to find much to hit the frame again. With three places on offer, 4/1 is fair enough for a horse who could easily travel into it and stick on for a place at worst. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple: Glitter Code is the win play in a weak enough race where his profile is the cleanest. For an each-way punt, Bizarre Law makes more appeal than some of the shorter ones because he’s well treated at the weights and arrives off a better run. Hashtagnotions is the obvious danger, while Hostelry could outrun his price if the inside draw proves a major asset.

17:25 – Racing Again On Bank Holiday Monday Handicap

Race Details: 1m 1f | Class 6 | Going: 7.5) (watering) (Good (goingstick) | | flat

This is not a deep Class 6 by any means, but it is the sort of three-year-old handicap where one or two could improve sharply now they have a bit more experience and a workable mark. Smoker Bellamy sets the standard on official figures and comes here off a solid second, so he is the obvious one to beat, while Barbury Boy is open to more now tackling handicaps after just three qualifying runs. Von Dutch has shown enough to suggest he can be competitive too, though stall 12 is not ideal around Beverley. Further down the weights, Laser Luck has at least been running respectably and looks one of the more interesting each-way plays. Tricky in places, but the market principals do make plenty of appeal.

Top Selections

1. Smoker Bellamy – 5/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Jack Doughty | Trainer: Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole | Form: 8664-2 | Rating: 67 | Topspeed: 33

He is the percentage call. Smoker Bellamy ran his best race yet when second on his return, and that effort gives him the clearest piece of recent form in the field. He is actually 2lb wrong at the weights off a mark of 67, but this is a weak enough race for that not to be a deal-breaker, especially given he receives a handy ride from Jack Doughty. The key point is that he has already shown he can handle this sort of level and there should still be a bit more to come at 1m1f. At 5/2, he is hardly a wild price, but he is still hard to oppose. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Laser Luck – 10/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Connor Beasley | Trainer: Gemma Tutty | Form: 0-6055 | Rating: 65 | Topspeed: 48

Laser Luck is not obviously ahead of the assessor, but he has been running well enough to think a race like this is within reach. Two recent fifth-place finishes do not leap off the page, though they came in races where he was not disgraced, and that Topspeed figure of 48 is one of the better numbers on offer here. Connor Beasley is a positive booking at Beverley, where track craft matters, and this mark is at least manageable if he settles and gets a smooth run into it. With four places on offer, 10/1 makes him a perfectly fair each-way punt in a race that does not look packed with depth. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Smoker Bellamy is the win play because he brings the strongest recent form and sets a pretty fair standard for this modest handicap. For an each-way alternative, Laser Luck makes more appeal than most at double-figure odds and should be competitive if reproducing his recent level. Barbury Boy is the obvious danger on handicap debut, while Von Dutch also has enough ability to get involved if overcoming the wide draw.
