All eyes head to the United States and Del Mar on Friday night for day one of the 2025 Breeders’ Cup. British and Irish challengers will be looking to reign supreme on American soil, but there will be some top notch international talent aiming for glory. Check out our best bets for day one of the Breeders’ Cup here.

9.45 Del Mar – MILITARY CODE (1pt win – 9/1 generally)
Having landed the winner of this race in the last three years, the British and Irish contenders have to be given huge respect in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at 9.45pm. The five-furlong contest has attracted a stellar field, with True Love looking the one to beat for Aidan O’Brien, but Godolphin could reign supreme with Charlie Appleby’s MILITARY CODE, who looks a leading player at decent odds. Second in the Dragon Stakes at Sandown, the Wootton Bassett colt was last seen finishing second in a listed event at York, where he was narrowly beaten. He’s found himself too far back in recent times, having been a bit shaky out the gates, but if he can break on terms here for William Buick and maintain an early prominent position then he can storm home to land a sparkling success here.

Matthew Sutcliffe’s Breeders’ Cup Tips: Day one selections from Del Mar
The two-day spectacular that is the Breeders’ Cup arrives this weekend and Matty Sutcliffe has begun the quest for winners west of the Atlantic. He has picked out three best bets for day one, including two Irish contenders to take down the hosts. 9:45 Del Mar – Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (Grade 1) (2yo)…
Wed 29 Oct 202511.05 Del Mar – PRECISE (1pt win – 6/5 Betfred)
Aidan O’Brien has won two of the least three runnings of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf with Meditate (2022) and Lake Victoria (2024), and the master of Ballydoyle can claim more Group 1 glory with PRECISE, who is a hot favourite for the 2025 renewal. Having won the Moyglare Stud at the Curragh two starts ago, the daughter of Starspangledbanner then produced a career best when rocketing to more Group 1 success to land victory in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket. Already a big fancy for next season’s 1000 Guineas, she can show her class here, despite an awful draw. Given stall 13, she will need to be given a patient ride by Christophe Soumillon, but if she can maintain a clear path through the second half of the race then she can prove to just be a real cut above her rivals in an intriguing contest.

12.25 Del Mar – OUTFIELDER (1pt win – 17/2 William Hill)
Gstaad is another red-hot favourite for the travelling O’Brien team in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at 12.25pm, but he’s another of the Ballydoyle raiders that has been handed a dreadful draw. Given stall 14 of 15 here, Gstaad will need to recapture the form that saw him win at Royal Ascot to land this prize, and having been beaten in his last few outings he’s worth taking on. OUTFIELDER is arguably one of the biggest dangers and Wesley Ward’s charge has stall 3, which is a huge positive. A winner last time out, the Amo Racing-owned contender has to improve again to down Gstaad here, but if he can sit prominently then he could well get the jump on Gstaad, who may just find it tough to get his head in front.
