Breeders' Cup Night Tips!

Breeders' Cup Night Tips!

From top of the bill to the bottom it is time for some serious Breeders’ Cup night tipping. With nine races on Saturday night, surely we can pick out some winners and some value at Santa Anita for a memorable night of racing in store.

Breeders’ Cup Classic, 12.35am

Nine run, but really it’s only about two of them in America’s richest race. California Chrome came within a quarter of a length of winning this here in 2014, and the Dubai World Cup winner is a perfect six from six this year. He should win. Arrogate – who posted a record 13 length win in the Travers Stakes when last seen – is dangerous if he’s as good as he looked then, but the form in behind makes unedifying reading.

Breeders’ Cup Mile, 11.40pm

It is somewhat baffling that defending champion Tepin isn’t favourite here; her defeat last time at the hands of Photo Call largely down to questionable jockey tactics. Edging her for favourism is Limato, whose connections have done the right thing in opting for this over the Turf Sprint, but all the same, a mile wouldn’t be his optimum and he’s on very unfamiliar territory here.

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, 11.01pm

She’s not in the form she was before winning this 12 months ago, but Chad Brown’s Wavell Avenue did fire a ‘bullet’ workout over the weekend and is the tentative selection in a tricky race. Finest City also appeals at a slightly bigger price.

Breeders’ Cup Turf, 10.22pm

Da Big Hoss, winner of his last three races, is a huge price at 33/1 and is a definite each way prospect, while the win looks marked for European export and Aidan O’Brien’s Found and Highland Reel should fight it out. Although you have to go back to 1983 to find an Arc winner to win again that season, this filly is something out of the ordinary and she can become the third dual winner of this race.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, 9.43pm

An open race, but it should be noted how bullish Bob Baffert has been about his Klimt, the mount of Rafael Bejarano. That said, the Quality Road colt was second to Gormley in the Frontrunner Stakes over course and distance last time and he can uphold that form in the hands of Victor Espinoza.

Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, 9.05pm

Santa Anita’s downhill turf course provides a unique test and closers are best suited to it, while a middle to high draw is usually best. Washington DC, drawn in eight, fits the bill. O’Brien’s charge has been second in three Group races this season and deserves one of his own. Wesley Ward’s Undrafted, third in this race in 2014, appeals at a bigger price.

Breeders’ Cup Sprint, 8.21pm

A hugely competitive heat in which Drefong, Lord Nelson and AP Indian are all likely to have a say. The first two, trained by Baffert, have home advantage, but slight preference is for AP Indian whose New York form looks strong and who has been aimed at this for some time.

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, 7.43pm

Sir Michael Stoute has an excellent six from 36 record at the Breeders’ Cup and his Queen’s Trust is capable of winning this if everything goes her way. It tends not to, however, so a more sensible pick is Lady Eli, for top US trainer Chad Brown, who has only been beaten once and who comes here fresher than most having only run twice this term.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, 7.05pm

This is as open as the market would suggest, but Yellow Agate deserves to be favourite after her Grade I Frizette Stakes win last time. At a slightly bigger price it might be worth siding with Noted And Quoted, the only course and distance winner, who took the Grade I Chandelier Stakes here last time out. Stable mate American Gal also has claims, despite a slightly interrupted preparation.
