Carlisle & Naas Racing Tips - Joe Napier's Lucky 15 Tips for Wednesday 24 June

Carlisle & Naas Racing Tips - Joe Napier's Lucky 15 Tips for Wednesday 24 June

The majority of racing has been cancelled on Wednesday due to severe weather warnings. However, both Carlisle in England, and Naas in Ireland, fall outside of red weather threat alerts, meaning their cards will go ahead for the time being.

GG tipster Joe Napier’s Lucky 15 tips are confined to those two meetings, with three selections from Carlisle‘s historic card, and one in Group company at Naas.

Carlisle Racing Tips (Wednesday 24 June)

Carlisle’s card is the only one going ahead in Britain on Wednesday. Featuring the 417-year-old Carlisle Bell handicap, Joe has three selections at the meeting.

4.02 Carlisle – Ellusive Butterfly (1pt win – 5/2)

The proven form of Ellusive Butterfly is preferred to the promise of Albaydaa in Carlisle’ Listed contest. Although the latter could easily rate higher, her achievements to date do not entitle her to be challenging for favouritism, even in receipt of 3lb from the selection. Ellusive Butterfly has earned her 3lb Listed winner’s penalty, winning gamely at Epsom earlier this month. She did so despite racing keenly on the front, repelling a promising runner-up in the process. She had previously been a massive eyecatcher off top-weight in a York handicap, so she is clearly going the right way. If Clifford Lee can settle her better, she is the class horse on all known evidence.

4.35 Carlisle – Canvas (1pt win – 15/2)

Having mostly improved throughout his three-year-old season, Canvas made a likeable return at Newmarket last month. Scott Dixon’s gelding won three times last year, rising 17lb in the handicap as a result. All three wins came over 1m on a decent surface, with his trainer playing around with distances and ground in the second half of last campaign. That was worth an experiment to eke out any further successes, but it so happens that his ideal conditions may not need changing. His last win came off just 1lb lower in a 16-runner York handicap in September. Since then he has excuses (distance at York, going at Doncaster), while his freshness on comeback should now have been dealt with. Further progress could well be forthcoming.

5.05 Carlisle – Dunkeld Dreamer (1pt win – 5/1)

Nick Bradley and Karl Burke can bring up a double with Dunkeld Dreamer. The daughter of Coulsty proved she could see out 1m4f last time out. That victory came in an amateur riders’ event at York off 2lb lower on her first attempt at the distance. She has mixed signals as a stayer on pedigree, but the evidence looked irrefutable. She also emerged from the back of the pack, another positive indicator given in-running circumstances at York. A 2lb rise is more than fair and three-year-olds have won the last two renewals of the Cumberland Plate.

Naas Racing Tips (Wednesday 24 June)

Our lucky 15 tip at Naas on Wednesday’s evening meeting in Ireland runs in the Group 3 Jannah Rose Stakes.

6.40 Naas – Rebel Moon (1pt win – 4/1)

With the Oaks form having taken a knock, Rebel Moon may upset favourite Cameo here. Aidan O’Brien has not won this Group 3 in the past decade despite regularly having runners, so it is easy to cast aside the Oaks fifth in favour of the Joseph O’Brien-trained selection. Rebel Moon has only raced once, but she won well at Gowran Park over a furlong shy of today’s trip. In third that day was stablemate Johanna Walsh, who was a head second in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last week. The daughter of Lope De Vega should have no issue stepping up in trip on that evidence. There is also enough promise in her pedigree for quicker going and she is already worth a shot at this grade.
