Carlisle & Navan Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Sunday 14 December

Andrew Mount looks to end the week on a high and heads to Carlisle and Navan for his best two bets on Sunday 14 December.

There are only three horse racing fixtures taking place on Sunday, with Andrew focusing on a brace of them, and we look at each of his tips in detail below.

Carlisle Racing Tips (Sunday 14 December 2025)

A six-race card takes place at Carlisle on Sunday afternoon, with the first race off at 12.10pm, but it’s the second race of the card that Andrew Mount’s selection runs in.

12.40 Carlisle – Shadow Chaser (1pt win – 9/4 Paddy Power)

Shadow Chaser, who earned a Racing Post Rating of 111 when third in a Cork bumper on his final start in Ireland, showed precious little in a half a dozen runs for Stuart Coltherd last term but took a step back in the right direction when second of 14 at Ayr last month on his debut for Sandy Thomson. Backed late from 13-2 into 3-1 that day (he was available at much bigger odds the night before), he emerged best of those to come from midfield or further back and the form received a boost when 23-length eighth Nathan Wells won next time out. His new trainer does well at the second time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards, scoring with 18 of the 94 qualifiers since 2010 for a profit of £79.13 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£107.01 at Betfair SP). Those who had finished second on their stable debut were five from 11 for a profit of £15.45 at SP and his trainer, who was 0-31 in late October/November, has hit form this month.

Navan Racing Tips (Sunday 14 December 2025)

Seven races make up the sole Irish card of the day and Navan will play host to some competitive races, with Andrew having a value selection in the 1.50pm race.

1.50 Navan – Tell Us This (1pt win – 8/1 Paddy Power)

Tell Us This won twice on right-handed tracks over hurdles but looks in need of a left-handed one from what we’ve seen of him so far over fences. Gavin Cromwell’s six-year-old jumped markedly out to his left when a ten-length fourth of seven on his chase debut at Downpatrick on October 10th and did so again prior to falling two out in the beginners’ chase at Gowran Park the following month. The 20-1 chance looked set for fourth place when coming down and has since had a confidence booster since, again jumping out to his left when a 150-1 eighth of 12 at right-handed Punchestown. The son of Westerner looks a likely improver now going handicap chasing on a left-handed track and is worth a punt. Since the beginning of 2020, his trainer is ten from 48 with handicap chase debutants in Class 4 or lower company (+£36.08 to a £1 level stake at SP, +£64.99 at Betfair SP after 2% commission).
