13:40 – Racing TV Restricted Maiden Stakes (Band D) (GBB/IRE Incentive Race)

Race Details: 5f | Class 4 | Going: 6.2) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary restricted maiden on paper, but one with a very obvious form horse. Call Nicki has already shown enough in three starts to set the standard by a clear margin, and her figures tower over most of these. The main question is whether one of the interesting newcomers can improve past experience, with Charlie Johnston’s Redline the most obvious threat in the market. Sunrise At Dawn has a bit more substance than some of the bigger-priced runners and could easily step forward again, while Eleven Eighty Two wasn’t disgraced on debut. It’s not a deep race, and in truth it may simply come down to whether the favourite runs to her mark on ground that should be fine.

Top Selections

1. Call Nicki – 10/11 with Bet365

Jockey: David Allan | Trainer: Tim Easterby | Form: 432 | Rating: 86 | Topspeed: 85

She is the one they all have to beat. Call Nicki has improved with each run, and that latest second reads well enough in the context of a race like this. An official mark of 86 and a topspeed figure of 85 are miles ahead of the standard usually needed to land a restricted maiden at Carlisle, especially over this sharp 5f. David Allan is a solid booking for a yard that knows how to place these juveniles, and stall 4 looks perfectly workable. At around 10/11, she is short enough, but not unbackable given what she has already achieved. Hard to oppose. Bet type: win bet.

Bet: WIN

2. Sunrise At Dawn – 5/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Joanna Mason | Trainer: Craig Lidster | Form: 58 | Rating: 76 | Topspeed: 49

If you want an each-way alternative to the obvious one, Sunrise At Dawn makes more appeal than most. The bare form figures of 58 do not scream certainty, but a mark of 76 gives her a definite chance of hitting the frame in this company, and she has already had the benefit of two runs. Drawn in 1, she could get a handy tow into this on the stands side if breaking cleanly, and Joanna Mason is well capable of making that position count over the minimum trip. Available at 5/1, she looks the percentage each-way play behind the favourite rather than a wild stab. Bet type: each-way.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple: Call Nicki is the win bet because her existing form is comfortably the best on offer and this does not look a deep maiden. For an each-way punt, Sunrise At Dawn has enough experience and a workable mark to make the frame. Redline is the obvious danger if the Johnston newcomer is ready to go first time.

14:10 – Watch Racing TV Live Handicap (Div I)

Race Details: 5f | Class 6 | Going: 6.2) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary Class 6 sprint rather than a deep one, and that makes recent sharpness especially important over a bare 5f at Carlisle. Rambuso Creek arrives off the back of a win and is the obvious one to beat if reproducing that effort, while Rain Cap has been knocking on the door and brings solid enough figures for this level. The three-year-olds Sunlit Sea and Jack Rabbit Slims add a bit of intrigue receiving weight from older handicappers, with the Prescott runner particularly interesting on his return. Ramon Di Loria is reliable without being bombproof, while several others need to improve on what they have shown lately. In a race lacking much depth, current wellbeing and the ability to travel strongly on this ground should decide it.

Top Selections

1. Rambuso Creek – 2/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Daniel Tudhope | Trainer: Michael Herrington | Form: 466551 | Rating: 64 | Topspeed: 59

Rambuso Creek is hardly a secret in this line-up, but he is still the one with the most persuasive recent piece of form after getting his head in front last time. That effort suggested he is back in the groove, and a mark of 64 does not look beyond him if he breaks on terms and gets into a handy rhythm early. Daniel Tudhope is an eye-catching booking in a race of this nature and this does not look any stronger than the sort of contest he can dominate. At 2/1 he is no giveaway, but he is hard to oppose given how patchy plenty of these rivals have been. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Sunlit Sea – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Luke Morris | Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott Bt | Form: 23327- | Rating: 60 | Topspeed:

Sunlit Sea looks the interesting each-way angle against the favourite. He has not been seen since last season, but that juvenile form stacks up pretty well in the context of a modest Class 6, and an opening mark of 60 could underestimate him if he has strengthened up from two to three. Prescott is not known for tilting at windmills in low-grade handicaps, and Luke Morris aboard suggests they mean business. The lack of a recent run is the obvious question, especially over a sharp 5f, but there is enough upside here to forgive that. Available at 4/1, he makes plenty of appeal as the progressive sort in the field. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Rambuso Creek is the straight win play after a confidence-boosting success and looks the most solid option in a weakish sprint. For an each-way punt, Sunlit Sea appeals as the one with untapped potential off a workable mark on his handicap return. Rain Cap is the obvious danger if building on his recent placed efforts, while Ramon Di Loria is another who should be competitive.

14:45 – Watch Racing TV Live Handicap (Div II)

Race Details: 5f | Class 6 | Going: 6.2) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary Class 6 sprint, but not an impossible one to solve. The three-year-olds could easily hold the key, with Maynora, Wee Dresser and Belling The Cat all bringing more upside than most of the exposed older brigade. Maynora is the obvious one after a recent win and another solid effort, while Belling The Cat has been knocking on the door in similar company and gets in here with a very handy racing weight. Stormy Pearl is another with credible claims if reproducing the better bits of recent form, but she’s starting to look a shade vulnerable to less exposed legs. In a race where early speed and a bit of grit in the final furlong will matter, I’d rather side with the progressive types than trust the old guard.

Top Selections

1. Maynora – 9/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Alex Jary | Trainer: Craig Lidster | Form: 552514 | Rating: 65 | Topspeed: 47

Maynora makes the most appeal because she arrives in proper nick and still looks the runner with a bit more to give. That recent sequence reads well enough for this level, with a win followed by a perfectly respectable fourth, and an official mark of 65 does not look beyond her at all in a race like this. She’s one of the younger legs in the line-up, gets in off just 131, and Craig Lidster’s sprinters are often worth respecting in these northern handicaps. At 9/4 she isn’t exactly hiding, but she is the one with the strongest blend of current form and upside. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Belling The Cat – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Aiden Brookes | Trainer: Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood | Form: -62454 | Rating: 62 | Topspeed: 53

Belling The Cat looks the each-way value in the race, especially with three places on offer in a nine-runner field. He hasn’t managed to get his head in front yet, but his recent form says he’s competitive at this sort of level and that topspeed figure of 53 is right up there with the best on offer. The big thing here is the weight: he carries just 120, which gives him a fighting chance if this turns into a proper test late on. Aiden Brookes knows how to nurse one into the race from off the pace, and at 9/2 he makes plenty of appeal as the solid alternative to the favourite. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Maynora is the win play because she’s the one arriving with the cleanest profile and the most obvious scope for another step forward. Belling The Cat is the each-way punt, with his low weight and consistent recent efforts making him a sensible play for the frame at least. Stormy Pearl and Wee Dresser look the main dangers if the principals underperform.

15:20 – racingtv.com Handicap

Race Details: 1m 6f | Class 5 | Going: 6.2) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper staying handicap and not the easiest race on the Carlisle card to call. Banderas is the obvious starting point after ending last season with a win and he’s understandably prominent in the market, while So Alex arrives with a solid profile after a runner-up effort on return. Gentle Warrior has been knocking on the door in similar company and Circuit Breaker has the inside draw and enough recent form to get involved again. The problem for punters is that several of these are exposed stayers, a couple of the more interesting ones are returning from breaks, and Carlisle can find out any horse not fully seeing out this trip. It looks competitive rather than strong, and value may matter more than simply siding with the favourite.

Top Selections

1. So Alex – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Jack Doughty | Trainer: Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole | Form: 2119-2 | Rating: 88 | Topspeed: 54

So Alex makes plenty of appeal in a race where a few have questions to answer. He signed off last term with a disappointing run, but the broader profile is progressive and that comeback second suggested he’s returned in good heart. A mark of 88 asks a question, but not an impossible one, and he still looks like a horse with a bit more to offer over staying trips. The draw in 13 is not ideal around here, yet if Jack Doughty can get him settled into a rhythm early, he has the sort of recent form that stands up well in this field. At 9/2, he looks a fair win play.

Bet: WIN

2. Arctic Fox – 12/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mark Winn | Trainer: Martin Todhunter | Form: 430-23 | Rating: 87 | Topspeed: 82

Arctic Fox is not getting any younger at 10, but he’s still running well enough to make a mockery of that price. His last two efforts suggest he remains competitive from this mark, and that Topspeed figure of 82 is one of the better numbers in the line-up. From a low draw in stall 2, Mark Winn should be able to hold a handy position without burning petrol, which matters over this trip on easy ground. He’s not the sexy improver in the field, but he is solid, proven and arrives in form, which is more than can be said for some of the shorter-priced runners. At 12/1, he’s the each-way value.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

So Alex is the one to back outright, as he still has the look of a progressive stayer in a race full of familiar handicappers. Arctic Fox makes plenty of appeal as the each-way alternative with four places on offer and a handy draw to exploit. Banderas is the obvious danger if returning in the same nick as when last seen, while Gentle Warrior also has claims if building on his recent consistency.

15:50 – Follow Racing TV On X Handicap

Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: 6.2) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is the sort of Carlisle handicap where you can make a case for plenty and trust only a few. Hostility arrives on the back of a solid second and is the obvious starting point, while Runninsonofagun and Jkr Cobbler bring recent placed form and look well suited by a strongly-run 7f. Bellasio has the rating to be involved if bouncing back, and Beaming Light is lurking on a dangerous mark from stall 1 if the ground doesn’t inconvenience him. At the other end, Union Island and Between Me And U have bits and pieces of form that keep them in the conversation, but both need to do more. It’s not a deep race for the grade, but it is a proper betting heat where track position and timing should matter.

Top Selections

1. Hostility – 5/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Daniel Tudhope | Trainer: David O’Meara | Form: 4-4972 | Rating: 78 | Topspeed: 65

Hostility makes most appeal after shaping like a winner-in-waiting when runner-up last time. That was easily one of the stronger recent pieces of form on offer in this field, and his figures suggest he retains enough ability to win a race of this nature off 78. The wide draw in 12 is no gift at Carlisle, but Daniel Tudhope is exactly the sort you want to manage that problem and O’Meara’s runners in these northern handicaps are never easy to ignore. Available at 5/1 with Bet365, he looks the one with the most solid claims if getting a sensible early position. Bet type: straightforward win material.

Bet: WIN

2. Jkr Cobbler – 9/2 with Betfair

Jockey: Jack Nicholls | Trainer: Iain Jardine | Form: 544573 | Rating: 79 | Topspeed: 67

Jkr Cobbler is the each-way angle because he keeps knocking on the door and his Topspeed of 67 is the best in the race. He’s not the easiest horse to win with, that much is obvious, but dropping in with 125 on his back gives him a fair chance of outrunning the market again. His latest third was perfectly respectable in the context of this grade, and a middle draw in 4 should allow Jack Nicholls to hold a handy pitch without burning too much petrol. At 9/2 with Betfair, he’s short enough to suggest the market sees the chance, but with four places on offer he still makes plenty of each-way sense.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Hostility is the win play because he brings the clearest recent form and still looks fairly treated for this level. Jkr Cobbler is the each-way punt, especially with four places available, as he’s consistent enough to give you a run for your money. The main dangers are Runninsonofagun, who is on the upgrade, and Bellasio if rediscovering his better efforts.

16:23 – Racing TV Fillies’ Handicap

Race Details: 6f | Class 5 | Going: 6.2) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a perfectly ordinary Carlisle fillies’ handicap rather than a deep one, but it is still competitive enough with a mix of exposed older mares and a few 3yos who may have a bit more to offer. Blufferonthebus arrives on the back of a solid second and sets the standard on recent figures, while Sandy Craic has been keeping better company than this and looks the obvious one if coping with these conditions. Velvet Rhythm is another unexposed 3yo with a progressive profile, though she did get found out a touch last time, and Albeseeingyer is the type to run her race without always finding plenty. It feels like a race where current sharpness and the ability to handle Carlisle’s stiff 6f will count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. Sandy Craic – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mark Winn | Trainer: David O’Meara | Form: -43255 | Rating: 72 | Topspeed: 69

Sandy Craic makes plenty of appeal in a race like this. Her form figures suggest she’s been knocking on the door for a while, and that Topspeed mark of 69 is the best in the field, which matters in a modest Class 5 sprint. She hasn’t quite landed the blow on her last couple of starts, but those runs were still respectable and this doesn’t look an especially strong contest for the grade. O’Meara’s 3yos often find their level in these northern handicaps and Mark Winn knows how to ride Carlisle well enough. At 4/1, she looks the one with the most solid overall case.

Bet: WIN

2. Velvet Rhythm – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Rowan Scott | Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Form: 43-114 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed: 61

Velvet Rhythm is the each-way angle because she still has the look of a filly going the right way. Two wins earlier in the campaign advertised her progress and her latest fourth was not the sort of run that should put you off completely; if anything, it hinted that she remains competitive off this mark. Drawn low enough in 3 and carrying just 132lb, she has a workable set-up for a stiff 6f. Charlie Johnston’s runners are usually straightforward and positive, which is no bad thing around here. At 9/2, she’s not a massive price, but she still looks a sensible each-way punt with place claims at the very least.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Sandy Craic is the win play on the strength of her recent level of form and standout speed figure. Velvet Rhythm is the each-way alternative, especially if you want to side with an unexposed 3yo in a race lacking depth. The obvious danger is Blufferonthebus, who is very easy to make a case for after that latest second and should be bang there again.

16:58 – Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap

Race Details: 6f | Class 6 | Going: 6.2) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a competitive little Class 6 sprint rather than a race packed with lurkers, and the market leaders have fairly obvious cases. The Gay Blade arrives in winning form and is thriving for Iain Jardine, while Good Karma comes here after getting his head back in front and remains on a workable mark. King Sharja has been knocking loudly on the door and is another with solid claims if things drop right from stall 8. Jamaican Storm is reliable enough at this level, but he does give the impression of finding one or two too good. On this surface, recent sharpness and the ability to travel strongly over 6f should count for plenty, so I’d rather side with the pair arriving here in the best nick.

Top Selections

1. The Gay Blade – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Andrew Mullen | Trainer: Iain Jardine | Form: 141261 | Rating: 77 | Topspeed: 57

He is the obvious one to start with because his profile is simply stronger than most of these. Two wins in his last three starts tell their own story, and that latest success suggested he is still very much holding his form despite being a 7yo. A mark of 77 does not look beyond him in this company and his Topspeed figure of 57 stacks up well in a race of this standard. Andrew Mullen knows him well, and from stall 7 he should have room to attack rather than get crowded up. At 7/2, he makes plenty of appeal in a race where recent winners are worth following.

Bet: WIN

2. Good Karma – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Sean Kirrane | Trainer: John David Riches | Form: 532741 | Rating: 76 | Topspeed: 58

Good Karma is the each-way play, although in truth he is solid enough to give the favourite plenty to think about. He had been edging towards a win before finally delivering last time, and that recent sequence reads like the profile of a horse in rude health at this level. His Topspeed of 58 is actually the best in the line-up, and off 76 he is hardly thrown in but certainly not badly treated either. Sean Kirrane should be able to keep him handy, and in an 8-runner race with three places on offer he looks the percentage option. The 7/2 is fair for an each-way punt given how dependable he has become.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

The Gay Blade is the win play because he brings the cleanest recent winning form and still looks capable of defying this mark. Good Karma is the each-way alternative in a race where consistency should be rewarded, especially with three places available. King Sharja is the main danger after back-to-back seconds, while Jamaican Storm is another who should run his race without being especially easy to trust for win purposes.
