Catterick Racing Tips (Tuesday 4 August)
Six races take place at Catterick on Tuesday, with a chance for the smaller yards to earn some victories in class 5 and 6 company, though there is one particularly eyecatching runner earlier on the card. Joe has two tips at the track, including an eagerly-awaited debutant.
2.15 Catterick – A La Montagne (1pt win – 11/2)
The first foal of Arc heroine Alpinista hits the track on Tuesday and A La Montagne may do so in victory. Sir Mark Prescott is in terrific form of late and though he is not known for debut two-year-old winners, Alpinista was one herself around this time of year. A La Montagne is by Dubawi too, so could not have a classier pedigree to record a statement win. Two of her rivals have placed form already, but neither in an overly strong race. 7f on good ground with rain in the forecast should be absolutely ideal for her racecourse bow. She should be fit and firing from the go.
2.45 Catterick – Wait For It (1pt win – 6/1)
If Iconic Times can transfer his recent winning form to the turf, he could prove too strong here. However, that seems unlikely based on his profile and the consistent Wait For It is preferred. She has been going close throughout the season in handicap company thus far. She has placed in all three runs off marks in the high 40s, but remains below a mark of 50 to compete in classified company. Those efforts strongly suggest she is up to winning in this company. Her neck second at this track over 6f is a standout piece of form and her trainer is striking while the iron is hot with a third run in two weeks.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Tuesday 4 August)
Lingfield’s action runs into the evening on Tuesday. Our two selections run in the concluding pair of contests at the Surrey track.
7.48 Lingfield – Hope Rising (1pt win – 15/8)
Although her run back on the flat in July was also in a class 6 handicap, this race looks much kinder for Hope Rising to gain a confidence boosting win. Jamie Snowden does not often have runners on the level. However, the selection ran well when fourth of eight at Bath three weeks ago. She was a winner twice over the summer in 2025 over hurdles, so appreciates conditions at this time of year. This 1m3½f distance suited her well enough last time and though she is unchanged on a rating of 55, she should take a step forward and have too much class for these rivals off top-weight.
8.18 Lingfield – Gert Lush (1pt win – 5/2)
Only half of this six-strong field are rated above 50. It is a weak race, so while the transfer to James Owen may help revive D Day Major Winter, Gert Lush used to race at a higher level for Roger Teal. She has also been trending towards some better form again recently. Her second at Leicester in May, when she was beaten just a neck, was on just her second start after 627 days off the racecourse between July 2024 and April 2026. She is now 1lb lower in the handicap too despite another placed effort at Ffos Las most recently. The drop to 1m1f should be fine for her and the nine-year-old can prove too sprightly in this field.
