Only two horse racing fixtures take place on Sunday 1 March, as National Hunt action comes from Huntingdon and Ffos Las. Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers looks through the form and picks out his Lucky 15 tips for a quiet day’s racing.
Catterick Racing Tips (Wednesday 4 March 2026)
There are six races taking place at Catterick, which kicks off at 2.10pm. Our best bets line up in the 3.10pm and 3.40pm contests.
3.10 Catterick – Marty Mcfly (1pt win – 3/1)
Sandy Thomson’s Marty Mcfly has been in the form of his life with wins at Musselburgh and Catterick. Returning to the scene of his last victory, the eight-year-old looks the one to beat in the 3.10pm race. He will need to defy a 6lbs rise for a four-and-three-quarter length win last time out, but he shaped like there’s potentially more to come. He will have the burden of top weight in this event, but plenty of his rivals have been struggling for form of late and he looks a solid performer.
3.40 Catterick – Workhardplayhard (1pt win – 11/2)
Junior Des Mottes has been a revelation in recent outings for Nick Scholfield and he’s well fancied to make it three wins on the bounce in the 3.40pm contest. However, he has a 7lbs penalty to carry here and at short odds is worth taking on. Tim Easterby’s Workhardplayhard returned off a huge absence last time out when eighth at Newcastle, and he’s sure to come on for that effort. Handed a mark of 100 here, he’s certainly one of interest, if he can build on that recent outing at Newcastle, which is sure to have blown the cobwebs off.
Southwell Racing Tips (Wednesday 4 March 2026)
A whopping nine races take place on the all-weather at Southwell, but you have to wait for the second half of the fixture for our best bets.
3.32 Southwell – Crimson Rambler (1pt win – 5/2)
Second on his last three starts, George Scott’s Crimson Rambler can finally get his name in lights in the 3.32pm contest at Southwell. Beaten just over a length over seven furlongs at Kempton last month, Scott has elected to send his charge over a mile on Wednesday and that could be the difference. He was doing all his best work in the closing stages of that Kempton contest, and off the same mark here he can land the prize in style.
4.02 Southwell – Fivethousandtoone (1pt win – 8/1)
Rated in the mid-100s during his prime and deemed good enough to compete in the Stewards’ Cup, Fivethousandtoone may play in calmer waters these days, but he can show in the 4.02pm at Southwell that he’s still capable of winning. Now rated 96, he was last seen finishing a very creditable third at Newcastle in January. Dropping into class 3 company here, he will have top weight to carry, but the speedy sprinter could just have too much class for his rivals.
