Andrew Mount fired in a sparkling double on Wednesday with two winners from two selections. He’s back with his best bets for Thursday 26th March, where he heads to Chelmsford‘s evening all-weather fixture for a trio of picks.
Grosvenor have a fabulous welcome offer for horse racing punters as they are offering Double The Odds to a maximum £10 stake.
Chelmsford Racing Tips (Thursday 26 March 2026)
Seven races at Chelmsford begin at 5.30pm, but you have to wait until 7.00pm for Andrew’s first bet, whilst he also has two picks in the 8.00pm.
7.00 Chelmsford – Smokey Malone (0.5pt e/w -11-2 generally)
Smokey Malone has been in fantastic form of late and arrives here on a four-timer after a double at Southwell and a narrow win over the 1m6f here trip last time. The Julia and Shelley Birkett-trained eight-year-old posted some impressive sectionals that day after racing closer to the strong early pace than ideal (the winner and third came from well off the pace) and he looks to have been underrated in the betting. His full record on the all-weather in the January to April period now stands at nine wins from 26 runs (34.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £28.83 to a £1 level stake at SP.
8.00 Chelmsford – 0.5pt e/w Orbital Chime (5-1 Sky Bet, four places) & 0.5pt e/w My Boy harry 8-1 sky Bet, four places)
Orbital Chime, ex-Katie Scott, could only finish seventh of ten on his debut for James Owen at Wolverhampton last week but caught the attention of the stewards after appearing to be tenderly handled. Jockey Cieren Fallon said his mount hung and became un-steerable and while the cynic in me would usually take his explanation with a pinch of salt the market support that day, quick return to action tonight and the application of a first-time visor suggests that we should give him the benefit of the doubt. His trainer has a great record with this headgear – 22 winners from 73 bets (30.1% strike-rate) for a profit of £20.39 to a £1 level stake at SP and he also shows a profit at the second time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards (39 from 183, 21.3%, +£26.58), with those returned to the track within ten days of their stable debut winning 13 from 39 (+£25.37). The wide draw is of some concern, but I still want a small each-way interest.
