One of the most competitive day’s racing in recent Cheltenham Festival memory will take place on Wednesday 11 March. Seven races will take place on day two of the festival, with the Queen Mother Champion Chase, Turners Novices’ Hurdle and Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase three of the feature races.
Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers previews all the action and picks out his Cheltenham Festival Lucky 15 for Wednesday. Check out his four best bets here.
Cheltenham Festival Racing Tips (Wednesday 11 March)
It’s a 1.20pm start for Wednesday’s racing at Cheltenham, and going right through until 5.20pm. Here are the best bets for the day.
2.00 Cheltenham – Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase – Final Demand (1pt win – 11/2)
Third in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle last season, where he was edged out by The New Lion, Final Demand will look to claim a first Cheltenham win in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at 2.00pm. Wins at Navan and Limerick propelled him to a near odds-on favourite for this race six weeks ago, but a below-par run at Leopardstown at the Dublin Racing Festival left Willie Mullins scratching his head. He will need to recapture his best to land this prize, but he is certainly one of the class acts in the race. Romeo Coolio is of interest, but may just lack the stamina over three miles. Kaid D’authie beat Final Demand at Leopardstown, so is a huge danger. However, if the early season Final Demand can show up here then he could well dominate.
2.40 Cheltenham – BetMGM Cup – Lucky Place (1pt win – 20/1)
Fourth in this race in 2024, Lucky Place maybe much higher in the handicap this time around, but Nicky Henderson’s star could be a lively outsider. A dual Grade 2 winner, which included a win in the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham, the Seven Barrows inmate certainly has some of the best form in the book. Third in Grade 2 company last time out, this much easier. He’s off 151 here, so has been dropped 2lbs, and he’s sure to be staying on. In a race awash with potential, Lucky Place can spring a shock.
3.20 Cheltenham – Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase – Stumptown (1pt win – 11/4)
Much was made of Favori De Champdou’s impressive win around the cross country course in January, but he’s been upped 9lbs by the handicapper and at 11 years old is going to find it tough to land this prize. An emphatic winner of this race last season, Stumptown can duly the double. A seven-length win saw him earn a 5lbs rise, so has 162 to contend with here. However, top weight in this contest means very little as they hunt around for most of it. Sure to be out the back during the early part of the race, Cross Country riding king Keith Donoghue will produce him late and he can bound up the hill to reign once again.
4.40 Cheltenham – Grand Annual Handicap Chase – Relieved Of Duties (1pt win – 18/1)
Second at Cheltenham earlier in the season, Relieved Of Duties has failed to kick on. However, now switching to handicap company, Gordon Elliott’s charge is of interest. Given a mark of 136, he was last seen finishing last of four at Punchestown, but a return to Cheltenham could bring on significant improvent. Deemed good enough to compete at Grade 2 level earlier in the season, he’s one that could spring into life in handicaps. Plenty line up with a chance, but he’s one at the bottom of the weights that could run well.
