Cheltenham & Wolverhampton Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Saturday 13 December

Andrew Mount has a bumper column for the racing on Saturday 13 December, as he has a trio of selections at Cheltenham and two tips at Wolverhampton’s all-weather evening fixture.

Saturday’s racing also takes place at Doncaster, Newcastle, Lingfield and Fairyhouse, but it’s Cheltenham and Wolverhampton that takes centre stage in Andrew’s column and he goes through each meeting with his best bets here.

Cheltenham Racing Tips (Saturday 13 December 2025)

Seven races make up Cheltenham’s Saturday card and Andrew Mount has a brace of tips for the 12.10pm contest and also a sole selection in the 1.15pm event.

12.10 Cheltenham – One Horse Town (1pt win – 15/8 bet365, 7/4 generally) & Matiwo (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 bet365, 20/1 generally)

One Horse Town clocked a very fast time when landing the Grade 2 Triumph Hurdle Trial on the Old Course here at the November meeting and is taken to defy a penalty in this Class 2 contest. Harry Derham’s gelding has now won his four starts over hurdles by a combined margin of 57 lengths and won’t have an issue with the much faster going.

Matiwo, trained by in-form Jane Williams, ran a nice race on his debut at Chepstow in mid-October, finishing a 40-1 third to Ammes and keeping on well after becoming outpaced. I liked his chances in the Grade 2 Triumph Trial won by One Horse Town last month. but he was withdrawn (“off colour”). December has often been a good month to side with runners from the Jane Williams (and Nick Williams before her) yard with 83 winners from 401 bets this century (20.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £104.28 to a £1 level stake at SP. The three-year-olds having their second career start were seven from 22, with seven of the 15 beaten horsed running second or third.

1.15 Cheltenham – Batwomen (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 bet365, William Hill, 12/1 generally)

This 2m4.5f mares-only handicap chase has a history of shocks, including last year’s 22-1 winner Game On For Glory who was tipped in this column. It should again pay to look beyond the obvious this year (horses that finished first or second in their prep race are just two from 41 across the previous nine runnings) and I wasn’t to chance Batwomen at a price. She’s trained by Neil Mulholland whose Cheltenham record outside of the festival stands at 17 winners from 102 bets for a profit of £31.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and she’s never finished outside of the first three in nine starts over hurdles or fences, running third at Lingfield last time. The big field and likely strong pace will suit, as will the ground (rated ‘good’ by Proform yesterday).

Wolverhampton Racing Tips (Saturday 13 December 2025)

A bumper eight-race card takes place at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening, with Andrew heading to the 5.00pm and 7.00pm races for his best bets.

5.00 Wolverhampton – Alafhdal (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)

Phil McEntee’s Alafdhal has a strong seasonal pattern to his form, usually peaking at this time of year. The seven-year-old defied a market drift when a winner (SP 7-1) for this column at Lingfield on December 2nd, a victory that took his record in December/January to 11112473190121 (7-14) for a profit of £24.13 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£28.57 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). There’s not masses of early pace in this 5f Class 6 handicap and he should be able to gain a good early pitch under Billy Loughnane despite a wide draw in stall 8 of 10. I’ll also play him in a forecast with Gustav Graves. Derek Shaw’s seven-year-old was only seventh of nine here five days ago but didn’t encounter the required strong gallop and has a good record when returned to the track quickly.

17:00 Midnite A Next Generation Betting App Handicap

7.00 Wolverhampton – Squiffy (2pts win – 2/1 bet365)

Hostility is an 11-race maiden who has been incredibly expensive to follow in six runs for Joseph O’Brien and in five for current trainer David O’Meara, tasting defeat at odds of 6-1, 7-2, 4-1, 11-10f, 8-11f, 2-1, 4-5f, 8-13f, 13-8, 6-4 and 9-2. We successfully opposed him with the gambled-on Coronado King in late October and I’m taking him on with Squiffy tonight. Heather Main’s filly could only finish a nine-and-a-half-length fourth of eight at Southwell on her debut late last month but was 50-1 that day and recorded a good speed figure for a debutante. The third – Oliver Cole’s Champagne Powder – went two places better at Chelmsford next time and the daughter of Iffraaj is worth a good bet despite her trainer’s poor record with fillies on their second career start.
