Andrew Mount heads to three separate meetings on Saturday 27 December, as he picks out his best bets at Chepstow, Leopardstown & Kempton.
It’s Welsh Grand National day at Chepstow, whilst there’s a quality jumps card at Kempton Park. We go through Andrew Mount’s tips meeting by meeting, as he looks to find a few winners on the day.
Chepstow Racing Tips (Saturday 27 December 2025)
A seven-race card takes place at Chepstow on Welsh Grand National day, but Andrew veers away from the marathon showpiece and picks out his best bet in the opening race at 12.30pm.
12.30 Chepstow – Zambezi Fix (1pt e/w – 17/2 generally with the firms paying four places)
Zambezi Fix has a very consistent record at Chepstow, recording form figures of U2225F31421221422 (3-17), including victory in the 2m handicap chase on this card two years ago. Bernard Llewellyn’s veteran has finished second off marks of 116 and 115 in his two course outings since returned to hurdles and though beaten by more than 18 lengths into fourth place at Uttoxeter last time, he fared best of those to come from off the pace. He runs off just 111 today, 10lb lower than when successful over course and distance in April of last year and the booking of Gavin Sheehan can only be viewed positively. I’m backing him each-way and will also be playing in the ‘to finish exactly second market” (Coral, William Hill and Sky Bet offer this option, though not until closer to the off time) given the eight second places from 17 course outings.
Leopardstown Racing Tips (Saturday 27 December 2025)
There’s some quality Graded action at Leopardstown and Andrew’s sole Irish selection runs in the Grade 1 Paddy’s Rewards Club Chase at 1.12pm, as he takes on Majborough.
1.12 Leopardstown – Only By Night (1pt win – 9/1 generally)
Only By Night took her record in the October to December period to 111111 (6-6) when getting the better of Champ Kiely by a short head in a Grade 3 chase at Naas last time (+£14.40 to a £1 level stake at SP) and last year’s Arkle runner-up can take another step forward today. Gavin Cromwell’s seven-year-old is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time and her trainer has scored with three of the past four last time out winners to ear this headgear (4-1, 5-2 and 9-4).
Kempton Racing Tips (Saturday 27 December 2025)
Kempton offer some excellent National Hunt racing as well on Saturday afternoon, but you have to wait until the final race at 3.37pm for Andrew’s nap on the card.
3.37 Kempton – De Temps En Temps (1pt win – 8/1 generally)
De Temps En Temps, a bumper winner for Gavin Cromwell in January, was beaten at short odds in a 2m7.5f Uttoxeter maiden hurdle on his debut for Martin Keighley but was ridden patiently that day and has since improved for the switch to forcing tactics. The six-year-old returned to Uttoxeter to score over 2m and followed up in a 2m4f Class 2 novice contest at Cheltenham when 22-1. He could only finish a 24-length sixth on his handicap debut at Cheltenham last month, but he made the running in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail and it’s safe to daw a line though that (the ground was much softer than ideal too). The return to 2m, faster ground and small field could see him hard to pass today.
