Tuesday is the final day of racing before York’s Ebor meeting begins on Wednesday 19 August. Four competitive meetings occur in their own right throughout the afternoon and evening though.
GG tipster Joe Napier heads to two of those cards for our lucky 15 tips for Tuesday. His selections run at Chepstow and Lingfield.
Chepstow Racing Tips (Tuesday 18 August)
The class 3 maiden on Chepstow’s card may possess a future talent. We have a lucky 15 tip in that race, as well as one other at the Welsh track.
3.15 Chepstow – Grove Street (1pt win – 4/6)
Avionics and La Bassette should both improve considerably on their recent runs. However, Grove Street ran a hugely promising debut at Sandown three weeks ago and there should be every chance he can go one better. Brian Meehan’s runner was second to Quest Of Stars, who has already won at Listed level since. The fourth won at Newbury last Friday too, so there is substance well beyond the winner from that novice event. The Lope De Vega colt clearly stays 7f already and Joe Leavy can make more use of him here.
3.50 Chepstow – Law Of Design (1pt win – 13/2)
Billy Loughnane could be in for a good day at Chepstow. Among his more intriguing rides on Tuesday is Law Of Design. The son of Sottsass has shown little since joining Ian Williams last December. He has been down the field on all six starts, but he was rated 91 after his juvenile races and finished third off a mark of 79 as recently as last September. He lines up off a stone lower here, with Loughnane aboard for the first time since the selection left Brian Meehan’s yard. There was a hint that he could rekindle his form soon on his last run at Chester. Given the jockey booking and the drop in class, this race may be the time.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Tuesday 18 August)
Lingfield’s is the busiest Tuesday card, with eight races going to post. We have selections in two of the three Classified stakes contests.
3.33 Lingfield – Snooker McCrew (1pt win – 6/1)
A significant step up in distance can suit Snooker McCrew here at Lingfield. The five-year-old drops into a Classified contest for the first time in his career. That, coupled with the new 1m4f trip, can aid him towards a second career victory. His only win so far came at this track in August 2024. That was in handicap company as a three-year-old, but he subsequently missed nearly two years of racing. He has switched trainers this term, but his run at Salisbury in July, on his second race for Max Comley, hinted that some ability remains. At the lowest level, he can still have something to offer.
4.45 Lingfield – Victory Sound (1pt win – 6/1)
Any horse who is competitive in handicaps usually fares well in Classified races. Therefore, Victory Sound likely has a win in him while his rating is 50 or lower. The four-year-old completely lost his wat in the early days for trainer Mark Usher. He was tumbling 5lb at a time in handicaps until a more respectable run at Lingfield in April off a mark of 55. His early juvenile promise had him rated in the 90s, such was his subsequent fall-off. However, two thirds at Linfield and Ffos Las stopped the slide and he may be the match for any horse on ability in this class.
